Can anyone recommend cheap PA gear?

I need to get some new PA gear...I have two huge PA speakers, but need an amp/mixer.

This is just strictly for practicing, but still needs to be relatively loud (and cheap).

Any suggestions?

Re: Can anyone recommend cheap PA gear?

Used Peavey or Carvin stuff is a good value. Lew

Behringer.... they're like the Peavey of the old days... brand new, decent stuff for short money.

Re: Can anyone recommend cheap PA gear?

Go to a pawn shop and look for some used stuff. I don't like buying new amps. Every single piece of new equipment I've ever owned has been in the shop within 3 weeks of buying it. Used, I've never had any problems. Stuff gets burned in.

You can get a decent Mackie 6 channel mixer for about $179. You can get a Nady stereo power amp, 200w a side at 8 ohms, for about the same price. Both at musiciansfriend.

Re: Can anyone recommend cheap PA gear?

if you can find a powered mixer, you'll be in good shape ... easier to set up than separate mixers / power amps too ... yamaha , mackies, carvins, or peaveys can get the job done

good luck

What about speakers.. we're in the oppesite situation.. we have all of our PA gear but now the speakers are gone.. recommentdations?

Re: Can anyone recommend cheap PA gear?

yea they jbl's are nice and again i am gonna stick by carvin and peavey for pa speakers as well. specially for the price.

and if you have more money i'd go with mackie's. I've used there little two way's with the 12's and i also use the dual 12 3-ways. Both are extremely clean and great sounding. and both have there own power amps.

If you already have a power mixer you won't need the mackies but they are great.

in one of my bands we run 2 carvin twin 15 cabs with the horn tweaters. again great sounding.

Re: Can anyone recommend cheap PA gear?

thanks for the replies...does anyone know about how many watts I will need for the amplifier?

We've got two guitars, bass and drums. My 100watt DSL's volume is usually @ 7. And our drummer plays pretty hard.
