Can anyone still play a Dean ML?

I mean, after Dimebag's legacy, that guitar seems like it is purely Dime's guitar alone. Is it possible to play one and not look like you're a dimebag wannabe? Even when Trivium (they suck btw) plays the Dime razorback models, i can't help but think, "oh, who do these people think they are, Pantera?"

I know a cat who loves MLs but cant escape the Dime comparisons even though he is a great player in his own right.
I own one but dont play out so no problem here.

I love mine and although I dont play out, I like to take it out cuz I get compliments out the wazooo..
Ive liked these since before Dime was famous and still do...

However, Id love to have one of the Deans from hell models cuz of the good floyd, bill lawrence pup, knobs and neck, but wont get one cuz I dont want the copy cat paint job.. If it came in black, Id be ALLL over it..

Thanks Bro! I do too! It plays as good as it looks.. I put a BBQ in the bridge and it sounds AMAZING!! The neck is shrederiffic. The pup is black and most people say the black looks better as there was too much gold. So other pups to follow will be black.. Ill post a pic soon of the changed pup. Granted only one is black now and I dont like the mismatch.

Thats one reason I hated hanging around the dean forums...the overzealous Dime fans.

When I started buying MLs, I didn't realize the stigma with Dime, mostly cos I didnt know much or care to know much about him. And with all due respect I don't understand the love for his playing or his hero status. From the several interviews I watched I think he was a drugged out ,drunken jack@$$ who couldn't utter one sentence without throwing the F bomb around. People say he was "genuine" and "the real deal", but he sounded like an ignorant uneducated redneck to me. And I've seen my share being from and travelling all over the South.

When I thought of ML's I thought of Adrian Smith, and Sammy Hagar. To me it just looks like a cool variation on an explorer. I still love the shape and the guitars and it wouldn't keep me from having one, but the DIME stigma is beyond annoying. When I'd bring it in to a shop, I got the "its one of those DIME guitars" lines form store employees and customers. :lame:

But I love the design: they are amazing guitars with an inherent playability and comfort level I've found in few other designs.
