He is generally right, but his specifics are wrong. Certain rubbers and foams used on guitar stands will mar nitrocellulose finishes. However, it isn't only Gibsons; it's any nitro finished instrument. And the color of the padding is not an indicator of whether or not this will happen. The type of material used for the padding, and how it interacts with nitrocellulose, are what matters.
To be safe, you just need to get cloth slip covers, or make your own.
I am with you. They're the only guitar stands I like, design-wise. They also happen to NOT mar nitro finishes (even with their evil black rubber pads). I've had my pair for about 20 years, and they're the only stands I've ever needed. They have an excellent balance of stability, build quality, durability, portability, and cost.
