Can Danelectros be used on stage?

I found some Danelectros DC 59 for a nice price on Internet but I haven't actually played one.
I have a Les Paul loaded with Duncan's Hot P90s but I need a backup guitar.
Are they comfortable and sound great? Should I buy and make any upgrades?

I have one. It is a player, and, IMO, is very stage-worthy.

The pickups through a Fender Prosonic sound solid. It's a capable axe

One thing about lipstick Danelectro pickups that turn people away are the low output. they are the lowest output pickups ive probably ever played.

they sound just fine, but they are on the mellow side.

They can be used on stage just fine. Especially newer ones. Older ones certainly had intonation problems, (remember, many sere 'student' guitars), but newer ones would be ok. There would probably be a market for something that looks like a Danelectro but is made with much higher-end components.

Do you think it's necessary to change tuners? I wouldn't mind it, that's a cheap upgrade.

Used to have a Danelectro Convertible. Great player. Lipstick pups have a special kind of jangle. The low output was my only issue as a stage guitar. Nothing a little compression or a light boost couldn't fix.

Check your local ordinances. Some communities allow that sort of thing, others are pretty strict.

I've got 11's on the one at my house. It stays in tune really well.

I have a pair of the cheap-a$$ Innuendo 12-strings and use them all the time. Love them!
