Can I change my Pre amp tubes......

without getting shocked and killing myself? or having to rebias the amp?

are pre amp tubes something you can, pull them....put new ones in....and play?

or does it take more work than that?
I know you cant do that with the power tubes.

Re: Can I change my Pre amp tubes......

Preamp tubes are easy! Just pull them out, and push the new one in! That's it!

Just be careful when inserting the new tubes not to bend the pins or you can risk cracking the glass of the tube. Oh, and be sure to spray the pins of your new tubes with electrical contact cleaner before you put them in.

Really, it's super easy. If you can change a light bulb, you can change a preamp tube. No biasing or anything of that sort.

And they can make a big difference in the tone of your amp. I'm a big NOS tube fan, but really there are some decent new production tubes. Invest in a handful of different tubes and try them out one at a time in each slot until you find your favorite. Marshall's especially react well to different pre amp tubes.

People change power tubes all the time. Amp off, pull tubes one at a time while gently moving them in a circle, install new ones with the same rating as the old ones, power on and rock.

Yes unplug power first lol.....I have a white glove that I use, so I don't leave any of the oil from hands on the tubes.......I heard it makes a difference years ago.....and even if it's not true I still do it because I'm just to old and stubburn to do it any other way lol!

Re: Can I change my Pre amp tubes......

Amp off - Pull em' out - Pop em' in! Use a clean cloth or tissue so not to get acids/oil from skin on glass. A lot say a Mullard NOS in V1 is the way to go with a Marshall also!
