can i cut strands off a wire and have it work?

I put a ground wire on my tele, which worked great.

only problem is theres too much mass under the bridge, and the end where the pickup is tilts up slightly.

its not an issue for playability, but it puts the bridge pickup really close.
i was wondering if i could cut off a few strands off the tip of the ground wire, since its kind of bulky for the job, and still have it work.

Perhaps you have a bad solder joint, and you cut off the only strands that were actually electrically bonded to the pot? Try adding a big blob of solder.
If that doesn't work, burn your guitars and shoot yourself.

the wire came off of the pot.

i guess i tugged on it or something.

I would repost the "DOH" pic but I really can't be arsed any more.

Re: can i cut strands off a wire and have it work?

i could solder it directly to the tele control plate right?

And don't blame the guitars for your soldering "skillz"!!!!

Sorry mate, like I said before I don't know about teles so can't comment. Why can't you just solder it back onto where it was before?

ill give that a try, it just seemed better to start on a clean surface.

Re: can i cut strands off a wire and have it work?

Good! I was going to suggest you clean off the pot by scraping it with a knife or whatever, but if it works, good! :)

thanks bro.

its weird, it hummed until i got the strings on.

i guess the strings take part in it. (??)

Re: can i cut strands off a wire and have it work?

You can cut strands, for sure, what will happens is that the wire will be able to conducing less intensity (few electrons). I think in guitars applications couldn't make a big effect.

yeah i noticed that it still works. thanks!

im really happy i could install that wire, it made the guitar usable live.
