Can I get a high 5?

Tooling around on this site has inspired me to turn my SG into the ultimate guitar of all time(or totally and tonally destroy it). I put the Duncan Distortion in the bridge and split it with a pot and I just ordered a Blues Saraceno for the neck. I will soon be rigging it up with one master volume, one tone for the bridge, one master bypass mini toggle, and have one toggle left over to use as a blend pot for the LR Baggs acoustic bridge thing that I'm pulling for as a Christmas present. I just ordered a 6 way chicken head selector to do all the switching, only because I talked myself out of cutting up a section in the controls panel to put in a 5 way selector switch like a Strat. I think I still prefer the inline, but I'll roll with this for a while and see how I like it.

To sum up, expect all sorts of crazy questions when I get these parts in the mail!

you may run into a little bit of a problem with the PATB-3 in the neck - that pickup is slightly larger than standard humbuckers, so you may have to shave off some of your pickguard to get it to fit correctly. Also, the strings may not line up phenomenally well, being that the string spread in the neck of a gibson guitar will be considerably smaller than that of the bridge of a floyded guitar.

I hope it works out well, but I see a few problems:

SG's aren't very thick (physically) so installing push/pulls and rotary switches might be a bit of a problem. The same can be said for the battery and attendant wiring (including the stereo jack) for the piezo system.

The DD will sound great for heavier rock styles in the bridge of the SG, but like dd12939 mentioned, the string spacing will not match that of your SG at the neck slot. I think you'd be better served with a Duncan Distortion set.

Here's something obscure...

You may try to do a google search on a guitar player named "Atomik" Tommy McClendon. He's from California, apparently friends with the guys from Tesla, and I only know his work from one album: UFO's Misdemeanor which was released in 1986.

His old cherry SG looked like a science experiment gone wrong (made a BC Rich look like primitive by comparison). He had it routed for 3 pickups. Invader was one, and I believe the old Duncan Silverbird, and a "normal" looking pickup as well.Quite alot of use of a Kahlerbridge, and more switches than I could ever imagine on a guitar (I know some were kill switches, I suspect phase switches and coil splitters)

He got some friggin phenomenal tones out of that SG too (I would never have thought it was an SG to be honest..too thick and powerful, yet sweet at the same time). A Very unique but very cool sound. In fact I'm surprised nothing (that I know of anyway) ever came of him. He has a very unique melodic but blazing at the same time kinda style.

I think some of the "hit" songs off that album (in the UK at least) were "Night Run", "Wreckless" (with the "w"), "The Only Ones".

The songs are trite and typical for the time period (though I like that sorta stuff), but ATM's playing and tone is amazing.

The string spacing thing worries me. I've already paid for this thing, I'm just awaiting it's arrival.

The space issue in the cavity is an issue that I've thought about. I've decided to go to mini pots for the tone and blend knobs and use a full on normal size 500K pot for the master volume. That will save me some space, but for the rest of it, I've decided to make risers or a box type thing out of the back plate. Right now I've got a push/pull acting as a volume and split for the bridge. It's a little too high for the back plate to fit flush, but I can make risers or a box and deal. Also, the whole reason I chose the Saranceno pup was to save space and money by not getting the Livewire Classic.

And you must know, I won't be sold on the LR Baggs T Bridge thingamabob until I try it.

Your solution may be simple, regarding the Blues. Just use it as your bridge pickup, and you may find it sounds better than the Distortion.....which you could then use as your neck pickup. If you shop around, you may be able to find a better way of splitting your pickups without having to extend the backplate. There may be ones that aren't too long to fit in there.
