Production aside, can I get some honest opinions on my (clean in particular) vocals in this track? I'm trying to see what I need to work on, I'm sick of dealing with mediocre singers.

Don't crank the intro, it's meant to be "far away" for a reason. LOL. I actually mic'd the headphones playing the for it.

I think I might get rid of the growls at the end, as it blurs the creepy whispers I have going on.

If you can sing and play guitar at the some time - go for it.

Re: Can I Get Some Opinions on Vocals? Clean/Growls

****, i didnt read your intro disclaimer, that scared me!

If the vox were louder in the mix i'd be able to hear em better. They werent too bad, growls are pretty good (i dont listen to much metal though). The singing was on pitch at least. keep practicing.

I'm in your boat too, i dont even know any singers, so i'm going to have to take the leap to vocals.

Re: Can I Get Some Opinions on Vocals? Clean/Growls

hmm.

try making the growls deeper sounding. the screaming type are good, the clean vocals need to be a tad louder so one can hear them better, to say some more, but as far as i can hear them they're good. the growls need a tad more work.

but so far so good. better than i can do. keep practicing, you're on the right track =)

Hmm... I'm having problems digging the vocal at all, until the whispers really man. But then again might sound better deeper into the mix or something? I have no ideas really, as im yet to attempt a vocal recording!

Re: Can I Get Some Opinions on Vocals? Clean/Growls

I'm gonna listen to it if I'm at home!

Btw what mic do you use? Our shouter is going to buy a new mic. We have A/Bed a SM58 and a AKG??? yet...

Re: Can I Get Some Opinions on Vocals? Clean/Growls

For recording or live work? For live work, nothing beats an SM58. For recording, get a RODE NT-1.

Unfortunately, I had to record this all with a 58. I'll work more on your suggestions this week, guys. Thanks!

Re: Can I Get Some Opinions on Vocals? Clean/Growls

I'm not digging the vocals, but the instrumentals are really good. I actually have to ask, are those drums live? If they aren't programmed or triggers then the playing and recording is amazing, especially considering your age. Guitar tracks are killer too, of course. :bigok:

Re: Can I Get Some Opinions on Vocals? Clean/Growls

Yeah for live .... I can't imagine how someone is shouting an such a studio mic

Re: Can I Get Some Opinions on Vocals? Clean/Growls

Sounds good. Though the growls sound a bit to much like whispering not really shouting. That would make em more cutting too (I think).
I really dig the intro!

Programmed ;).

I'm having a vocalist come down today who's trying out for the band, I'll post what he records up when it all gets mixed.

He comes the first time and you gonna record him :laugh2: and then put it on the net..

My band never did any recording. Or is it just a recording project?

Re: Can I Get Some Opinions on Vocals? Clean/Growls

Well the drummer can't make it today, so we're going to try him out tomorrow, but he's going to be in town anyways, so I figured I'd do this for reference.
