Can I only buy a neck?

I am wondering if I can buy a fender strat neck? Basically I want to get a left hander strat neck and put it on a righ hand strat, so that I have a reversed headstock. Does anyone know where to find a neck? BTW, I am using american deluxe strat. Thanks

Re: Can I only buy a neck?

would warmoth or usa guitars do that? - just ask for a lefty neck? and slap it onto your current body

Re: Can I only buy a neck?

If you cant find one on ebay, Warmoth could definately do that for you. You would be abel to get exactly what you are looking for at Warmoth too... down to the profile shape, fret size, wood type, headstock style, etc. and their necks fit Fender bodies, so I would say Warmoth is your best bet. www.warmoth.com ;)

Re: Can I only buy a neck?

Tell Warmoth you want a righty neck with a reverse headstock, so the fretboard side markers are on the correct side. They'll be on the bottom if you get a lefty neck.

So basically I can get a neck which is exactly the same as the fender except the reversed headstock right?

I went to their website....looks really cool. They have tons of selections of everything. I am wondering did anyone order a custom guitar from them before? How's their quality? How much does it cost to build a custom guitar?

Back to the neck, what's going to be on my headstock if I order one from them? I checked the gallery, but they don't show any guitar with the headstock. Thanks

Re: Can I only buy a neck?

the warmoth headstock will come blank, and you will get a warmoth logo that you can put on it if you want to. Warmoth makes really good stuff. I built my entire guitar from their parts (except for the pickups) and its a really sweet guitar. there are some other guys here who have built multiple warmoth guitars and they will tell you the same thing. the prices vary a lot on an entire guitar, but mine was right up at 1000$. a neck only will cost you around 200$ after you get it finished and all that (unless you do it yourself, of course).

Re: Can I only buy a neck?

USA Custom Guitars is another option to consider. They actually came out cheaper than Warmoth on the neck for my strat, and I was able to customize it more too. One thing to remember is that they don't have in-house finishing facilities.

Re: Can I only buy a neck?

I've bought from both Warmoth & USA Custom Guitars. Warmoth's strat-type headstock shape is closer to Fender, while USACG's is deliberately a bit off (that you can sand/file/shape easily) to avoid trademark infringement.

+1 on Fretfire's comments.

Here's an example of one of USACG's "strat" type headstocks. There's just a little bump you can sand off to be exact.

You can buy Fender Vintage Reissue necks and bodies from Musicians Friends but they are way over priced! Makes me wonder if you can go to a fender Dealer and get a neck like you want... But it would be cheaper going to Warmoth or the other companies.

You have to do a bit more than just file off the bump if you want a strathead, the ball hits at a relatively sharp angle, not a curve... ;)

It´ws not significantly more work, though ;)

Re: Can I only buy a neck?

Warmoth, USA Custom Guitars, All Parts, and Mighty mite all have either lefty necks and/or reverse necks, you could also search Ebay. Fender also sells bidys and necks in both left and right handed but they are not sheeo, and they are vintage correst (tight radius and wire frets). BTW...good call! I'm putting a lefty neck on my Strat asap!
