Can I Paint a hot rail?

I have a white hot rail that I would like to paint
black to match the other rails in my strat.
What kind of paint should I use, and will this effect
the tone?

i guess if you're gonna do it, permanent marker? a few thick coats, like..

You could just sell it and get a black one.

I had done this on my stock pickup, but it does not look all that great, it does not affect tone( at least not on mine) but I dont recommened it. It looks good from a distance but not from close, no matter how well u do it, it can be noticed that a paint job has been done.
