Yes it can be done, have you done heart surgery on a pickup before? If not, leave it to someone that knows what they are doing. Yes, it can be tricky to make sure nothing gets screwed up in the process. You could send it to Duncan to get it swapped or there may be a few people on here qualified to do it. I have personally done this kind of thing many times myself.

Yeah I do it all the time, but if it's your first time, I'd do it with a junk humbucker first, or at least resign yourself to the fact that you might blow the pickup. If the coil exit wires are tugged they can break the coil wire and kill the coil. If it's the outside wire you can further operate and try to remove a wrap or two and redo the exit wire. If it's the inside wire you're done and it has to be rewound. You don't want to overheat. Also if you're not careful, you can easily make contact with another wire or chassis when you're stuffing the exit wires back under the coils. If you just want the coil junction it's easier to attatch a wire to that junction and leave everything else alone. You'll have an unshielded coil jumper wire coming into the cavity, but at least you won't have to solder 4 leads plus a shield to the baseplate.

Shouldn't be much to the swap. Black output still goes to the 3way or 5way, whichever you have. Green and black to ground. If you don't need the split abilities yet, just solder the white and red together and then heat shrink an insulator boot over them, or electrical tape them.
