can i use a push-pull pot for a pickup selector?

Re: can i use a push-pull pot for a pickup selector?

Yes, but it doesn't allow you to use two pickups at once unless you use a push/pull for each pickup. It also doesn't permit you split humbuckers without even more switches.

Many of the ESP George Lynch sig guitars feature p/p pickup switching. Up is the neck pickup and down is the bridge pickup.

If you like simple operation, a single p/p volume pot is a clean way to switch between a neck and bridge pickup at the sacrifice of tone that uses both pickups. That make sense?

Let us know what you might want to throw together. The great thing about p/p pots is that the wiring is generally very straight forward.

It might be a pain to do your switching quickly and easily. If you can find a way to hook up a push/push tone knob, it might be better. Everytime you push it, it'll switch pickups. Also, a pot with a center detent will allow you to pan between pickups.....this is becoming popular, although I haven't personally tried any of the ideas I'm giving you. I'm really only a fan of 5 ways and 3 ways.

where should i order my pots from. currently i have the el-cheapo's from guitar center(500K). they work ok, but i want to upgrade, and get rid of my
3-way switch. the switch is now where the volume knob normally is on a strat, and its more in the way than the knob.

I tried this once. It was fun for a day or two, then went away. It just wasn't worth it.

I think the guys on here that sell pickups also sell CTS pots. Those are probably the best. There are several other places that have them online, too.
