i used to and it worked fine. I stopped when some dude in a guitar shop said it was bad. I dunno. It seems fine to me, but i did not try it on nitrocellulose finishes.

I don't know . . . is it winning?

Furniture & guitar polish are basically the same. Many people will argue this point that a guitars finish is different, but I don't think they are. Older furniture was either French polished or lacquer finished. Today they are either water based or poly based..... so are guitars. I have been using Pledge on my guitars for several years. They play and sound fine & the finish is intact with no issues. My logic is this... James D'Aquisto used Pledge on his guitars, so if it is good enough for him, it's good enough for me!

Does it have silicone in it? If it does, I wouldn't use it on my guitars.

Re: can i use Mr Sheen/furniture polish on my guitars?

I use it on my guitars, never had a problem except that one time.

Re: can i use Mr Sheen/furniture polish on my guitars?

i've used it for years with no problems. car polish and a buffer is so much better though!

Re: can i use Mr Sheen/furniture polish on my guitars?

yes....mr sheen has silicone in it....i rememeber now thats why the guitar shop dude said not to use it!
....but what exactly will silicon do thats so bad?

Re: can i use Mr Sheen/furniture polish on my guitars?

Silicon in the polish might not matter until you have to refinish the guitar.

Re: can i use Mr Sheen/furniture polish on my guitars?

You can use whatever you want. I think the question you ment to ask is "Should I use furniture polish on my guitar?". I'm told that furniture polish has some additive in it that can create problems when you refinish the guitar. So if you NEVER plan to refinish the guitar, no problem. If you think you have or will leave an heirloom you may want to be more concerned.

I gave up on asking this question & asked Gibson what to use. They suggestd their specially formulated "Guitar Polish". What a surprise. It works fine for me. I loved the slippery feel of my SG's neck from the day it was new & I use the polish to keep it that way. It still has that just out of the box feel to it.

Good Luck.

Silicon = circuit boards
Silicone = fake boobies, and tub caulk

Ever try to apply new silicone caulk over dried stuff, say, if you miss a spot? It doesn't stick. Silicone is too slippery, and it's a pain in the arse to get it all off when you want to remove it.

I've been using the same little bottle of Dunlop 65 for years and it's still 1/3 full. Then again, I don't have a ton of guitars to clean.

Re: can i use Mr Sheen/furniture polish on my guitars?

I have a long boring story about how I ruined several boat hulls in a boat factory by fixing a sticking spray gun needle valve with silicone lubricant.

Re: can i use Mr Sheen/furniture polish on my guitars?

Sheen /pledge /Armor all + co can be used on guitars IF YOU NEVER, EVER, have damage that requires woodworking over the entire guitar´s lifespan. Most people on this planet are not in a situation where they can plausibly make that claim....

Glue and finishes do not stick to silicone, and silicopne penetrates the wood. THis causes MASSIVE problems with future repairs. a 200$ headstock repair instantly becomes a 500-1000$ new neck, a refinish can quickley require the entire guitar to be rebuilt from teh ground up with new wood, et.al.

Bottom line: Quit being a cheapskate and buy a bottle of guitar polish, or pay dearly in the long run. For ****´s sake, I have more than enough guitars, keep them all polished and freshly strung, and still only need a new bottle every few years.....

I can´t believe this still has to be said on a weekly basis....
