hi can i use my boss metal zone with the line 6 spider II modelling amps? i am thinking of buying a new amp and not sure which to get, i only have £250 to spend.

to use the metal zone on the spider II would i just select a clean amp model to run the pedal through?

whats the main thing i should be looking for in an amp priced around £200 - £250?

what do people think of the line 6 spider II amps? any good? i play mostly metal

also does the spider II have a headphone socket and is the spider II any good at lower volumes for home practice?

thanx

p.s any other suggestions would also be good, thanx

You can use a Metal Zone through a Spider II, but IMO, it'll come out sounding like crap. But that's not because of the Metal Zone, I just hate the Spider II. Regarding the Metal Zone it'll work fine. The Spider II sounds weak, thin, and too digital. It's overpriced and overrated IMO. Yes, it has a headphones out. And if you think it sounds good at high volumes, it'll sound good at low volumes too. As it's solid state, you don't need to open up the power amp to use the amp's potential. I, however, think it sounds like crap, and there are much better amps for the price range. Make sure to play it before you buy it, though.

Spider II's... ew. They sound cold, sterile, and lifeless to me. Plus digital modeling amps tend to not like having high-gain pedals fed into them anyway, as most modeling amps pack at least 2 models with more gain than you'll ever need.

Personally if you're looking for a small modeling amp with plenty of GOOD distortion and cool effects for home practice only I'd recommend one of Behringer's amps or a used Line 6 Flextone II 1x12 combo.

or to make the best of a distortion pedal, get a decent used tube amp. That way you get tube cleans and heavy distortion...

if this is just for home use, get a POD & some headphones

I'm not sure how much £250 is, if its like $250, well, you can't really find a gig worthy amp for that much

if its more like $500, well, that opens up a lot of possibilities!

so...

just out of interest, is it worse than the spider 1 even?

because that would kind of be hard...

I preferred the Sipder I's to the II's. Even as home practice amps... at least the I didn't make me dryheave.

Re: Can i use my Boss metal zone pedal with a line 6 Spider II modelling amp? etc

is there anyone out there who actually thinks the spider II is good?

For me,the Spider II is a satisfactory practice amp,but it's solid state,so it will sound stale for that reason. If you were getting the amp for $150,and just wanted it for practicing at home,it's not a bad deal.If you want it to gig with,I'll tell you to save your money and go with something tube driven.

hmm so would you say the behringer analgue modelling amp the gmx212, is better than the behringer digital modelling amp the v-ampire?
i would be using the amp mostly for home practice but also for practicing with a band. would any amp that i have mentioned be heard above the drummer?

Re: Can i use my Boss metal zone pedal with a line 6 Spider II modelling amp? etc

If you want to jam with a drummer I'd suggest and amp of at least 30 watts if you're going tube and at least 50-65 watts if you're going solid-state.

One thing's for sure. DO NOT play the Spider's dirty channel. Garbage. Any of um. You pick. It'll be mud city. My advice would be to get a decent tube amplifier where you can get some nice warm overdrive.

has anyone actually tried usuing a metal zone pedal with a line 6 spider 2?

Re: Can i use my Boss metal zone pedal with a line 6 Spider II modelling amp? etc

my rhythm guitarist uses a metal zone w/ a Behringer 2x10 amp. the distortion that comes with the amp is HORRIBLE but it has decent effects and it sounds pretty good w/ the Metal Zone, idk about the Spider II, but the Behringer might be a good route to take.
