Has anybody tried taking a rail pick up and taking out the ceramic magnet and replacing it with an alnico? IMO, I think the rails sound great but, the top is just a bit harsh. I would like to try an alnico in one. But, I wonder why it hasn't been done already. What do you think?

Good question. Buy a couple used pups and do an operation on them.

Good luck. I don't think it can be done without essentially destroying the pickup first.
