Can someone elaborate on the Soldano Dist. Pedal?

Re: Can someone elaborate on the Soldano Dist. Pedal?

cos it's got "soldano" written on it.

actually, there isn't much more reason than that...

Tubes.

Most pedals with tubes in 'em don't really use the tube(s) for gain stages but more to warm up the tone. In Soldano's case, the tubes are used more like the way they are in a real amp. That means high voltage power supply and a lot of engineering to keep it from zapping the user. Same can be said of the Mesa ODs.

Also, I believe it's made in the USA and in limited numbers. They're not exactly whipping 'em out on a Southeast Asian assembly line.

Put simply, it's Soldano and Soldano "is" known for it's high quality high gain tone. Soldano's absolutely kick and I've heard very good things about the Supercharger (except I've heard the early ones were noisy as heck and there are mods to tame it). I've considered getting one, but I'm too happy with the pedals I have now.

Is there really a risk of being electracuted by this pedal? I'm looking to get a Fender Hot Rod and this pedal could really take care of the high gain I need.

No more than by your Fender.

Re: Can someone elaborate on the Soldano Dist. Pedal?

That is a pretty sick pedal. It is actually more like an all tube pre-amp than a traditional overdrive pedal. That pedal is basically the pre-amp section of a Soldano SLO crunch channel. You can take that pedal and run directly into a PA if you wanted to. It is pretty cool. I don't know if it worth $400 bucks but it much more than a Tube Screamer or Boss OD-1. If I remember correctly it take 120V power which is a pain in neck trying to rig up on a typical stage.

The guitar player in the band I roadie for uses one, and he plugs it into the same surge protector as the rest of his pedals.

Sounds phenomenal, btw :)
