Hello everyone, i was just wondering if you could learn me something about guitar valves\tubes?

I really want to know how different output tubes change the sound of an amp, like El-84. El-34, 5881 and 6l6'es? :)

Thanks,

I also would like to get some basic info about the different sound characters of output tubes, if i could get your opinions it would be great! :)

I´d love to help you, but using tubes and explaining them are 2 very different things ;)

But I´m sure Jeff or Jeremy will pop by soon ;)

Jeff? Jeremy?

EL-34's "the wooden sound" AC/DC, Judas Priest, Van Halen, Kiss, Gary Moore or anyone using Marshalls.

6L6's "thick glass" SRV, most blues for cleans, most Mesa or Peavey users for gain examples.

6V6 similar to 6L6's but a bit boxier sounding and it breaks up much sooner, with less clean headroom. Denser sounding than EL-84's. Great for blues/roots, rarely used for high volume music.

EL-84's (brittle glassy chime with a bit of woody bark when loud) Think Tom Petty, U2, Brian May, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Cheryl Crow, REM. Most roots rock bands.

Thanks alot GJ, i think i understand the deal now ;).

So, the El34's gives that thick, roaring marshall tone,
6L6 gives that fat, glassy SRV tone,
and El84's gives that glassy, furious but sweet tone?

Correct me if i'm wrong, ok? :D
