Can the STK-S9 be wired in parallel?

I did a search but didn't find anything.

I would like to wire an STK-S9 in parallel so I can try it in the neck position of an ESP MH-327. It came stock with a Hot Rails, which I just don't like in this guitar. It is too dark and has no harmonics.
I'm gonna try the HR in my Strat!

Re: Can the STK-S9 be wired in parallel?

Can I simply wire the red and white wires to the switch and the black and bare to ground?

Re: Can the STK-S9 be wired in parallel?

I think the design is more like a tapped singlecoil, rather than a full humbucker. To do parallel you would have to have both starts and ends for the coils - unless there is some tricky way I don't know of.

Re: Can the STK-S9 be wired in parallel?

Thanks Alex,
I put an ohm meter on the pickup.

White to ground is around 20k
Red to ground is around 6k
White and Red together to ground is around 13k

I can't seem to find a diagram that explains whether or not the newer STK's can do parallel wiring, but it seems like it is a solid maybe......

Re: Can the STK-S9 be wired in parallel?

The 20k is of course the 'full' pickup, but there is the fact that the stacks I think have a 'negative' 2nd coil, so it takes away rather than adding like the 2nd coil of a humbucker. As such, I'm not sure whether it would go well in parallel even if there was a way to wire it thus.

Re: Can the STK-S9 be wired in parallel?

You can't do any of the "new" STK series in parallel. They aren't wired in the traditional "stack" manner. Sorry.

Re: Can the STK-S9 be wired in parallel?

Thanks Artie, that's what I thought but I wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking something.
I got it in a package deal, so I'm not attached to it yet. Thought I'd give it a try if I could find a place for it.

I'll just trade it for a neck pickup or sell it on the bay.

Re: Can the STK-S9 be wired in parallel?

Give it a fair chance. I've got a pair of STK-S4's in the neck and middle, and an STK-S9 in the bridge of one of my Strats. I love it. Not "vintage-correct", but sweet. ;)

Re: Can the STK-S9 be wired in parallel?

Thanks!
All of my pickgaurds are HSS though. I'll have to order a Warmoth SSS pickgaurd this afternoon.

I'm going to have to look at my wiring again though. My Strat is super low output and just doesn't sound very good.
I have an STK-S7 in the neck, and an STK-S4 in the middle. They cannot even begin to keep up with my PATB-1(alnico 8) in the bridge.

The stock pickups (2-N3 and an Atomic HB) sounded very weak too. The HB sounded pretty good, but the N3's were weak and thin sounding.

I used a completely different pickgaurd and new pots, so I know it's not the S-1. Maybe my output jack is shorting slightly to the shielding or something. I'll have to take a better look.
The Tone Comparison Chart on Duncan's website doesn't list an output for the STK-S7n, only for the bridge model. I'll have to throw a meter across it later on today.

Re: Can the STK-S9 be wired in parallel?

I thought about using one of those on a Carvin Bolt Plus that I have so I could try a Chopper in the neck!

Heh . . . so you saw what I was talking about before I deleted it. :D
