Can you compare these two neck pickups for me?

I know what the Dimarzio PAF Pro sounds like in the neck. I'm currently using it in my Les Paul. Like it a lot. Has a translucent tone. Not fat and woofy like the '59.

I also have a Duncan Distortion neck model sitting in my box. Really am curious as to what that would sound like in the neck?

Would it be too fat? Too aggressive? Too bassy?

I like my neck tone to be more flute-like, kinda like a Strat neck tone. Clear. Not fat or bassy. Love the YJM neck pickup.

Give me your comparisons.

usually the sh6n sounds very fat but very different from a 59

The only relevant comparison involves putting in the pickup and hearing it yourself.

Given you already have it, why bother waiting.

It sounds and responds nothing like a YJM neck pickup.
I think it is sort of too tubby for that...the 59 might have too many lows (on some guitars). Try what you have, I say! It might work just fine for your particular instrument.

How can you ask this when you have the specific answer, not a generality, sitting on your shelf? I don't think the Distortion will be what you are looking for since the LP already has naturally fat tone. More like a Jazz.

Agree on the YJM pickup lead sounds. I've got a set of DiMarzios and Duncan YJM, and think the DiMarzios have the sweeter tones. It's as if the tones were lifted straight from Marching Out. :headbang:

I had the Distortion neck in my Charvel Socal 2014 and I have also used the YJM Neck in my MIM 1996 Poplar Strat so I can tell you the Distortion neck did not sound/feel like the YJM neck at all to me. Being that said, I saw this video by... Chris Brooks?... getting a very nice neoclassical tone out of it, very tasty YJM neck tone using the Distortion neck so I guess it is all a matter of know how to tweak your ring. A graphic EQ pedal in the FX loop may help a lot, something I don't have.

Edit: I just listened back to that video, that is a nice tone itself but not as YJM as I felt the first time.
