Can you gig with an Orange Micro Dark

Im planning on running a Orange Micro Dark through a Blackstar 2x12. Will it be loud enough to gig with? Its a 20w hybrid with one 12ax7 preamp tube and a 20w solid state power amp.

Depends on the gig and your drummer. But any small to medium gig I've ever done, 20 SS watts would not be enough. But that would be my experience.. Your question is neigh impossible to answer with any certainty. But a few practices with the whole band should be enough to give you a rough idea.

Alright thanks man. I just thought it would work cause *cough cough rob chapman cough cough*

Re: Can you gig with an Orange Micro Dark

I have a regular Micro that I have been using lately. I have a rather clean sound and just started using at church last week. If I used more gain I could play a small gig with it and my 2x12. We have a good pa and mics at the church, so I am good for me.

Re: Can you gig with an Orange Micro Dark

I did it with a 212 cab loaded with cannabis rex speakers. Not much in the way of clean tones, but the amp cleanes up nicely enough for me with the guitar volume control.

Re: Can you gig with an Orange Micro Dark

I've gigged multiple times with a 5w 5f1 Fender Champ. It was mic'd up, but it worked great! I'm sure the Micro Dark through a 2x12 will be fine!

Re: Can you gig with an Orange Micro Dark

That's enough to do it with distorted sounds. You may have trouble with cleans if the band is loud.

I've gigged a 15 watt 1x10 combo, but those were blues gigs, with a very disciplined band, in a small pub.

Dude I've been wondering the same thing for months!
My only concern:
Clean volume :/ - Most likely not loud enough for gig volumes, but it may be doable if you dirt it up a bit and use the volume knob. Hey, what do I know though?!
As for distortion, I'm fairly confident that this thing can handle small to medium sized gigs.
Try it and tell me how it goes. ;) Good luck!

It won't do cleans at loud volumes, but it puts out some dbs through a good cab.

Re: Can you gig with an Orange Micro Dark

Yes.

If need you more power then you need more power.

If you play clean most of the time then you're probably looking at the wrong type of amp.

Re: Can you gig with an Orange Micro Dark

Mic it or use a line out to a PA from the headphone jack and it'd be doable. If you don't have the option of putting it in the PA, it's probably not loud enough.

Re: Can you gig with an Orange Micro Dark

FYI, if you already have another louder amp, but want the micro dark tone, send the effect send to your other amp's effect return.

Re: Can you gig with an Orange Micro Dark

So this is sending the preamp gain into the other amp acting as a distortion pedal? I dont have another louder amp because im broke lol but is that what youre talking about?

When you run it like this, you bypass the preamp of the larger amp, and the micro dark acts as your preamp, which you can then put another overdrive/distortion pedal in front of.

Re: Can you gig with an Orange Micro Dark

The price and size of a bigger amp would probably offset the affordability/practicality of a Micro Dark fed into said bigger amp.

You would also have to supply mains power to two amps at once. No big deal but I reckon a pedal into a nice Fender amp would be easier. It depends on how determined you are in getting an Orange tone using less conventional methods.
