can you id this tele pickup?

hello,
got a tele pickup that was paired with an stk t3b. it has the cloth wrap wire, and the coil windings are real dark like almost black. I don't see a model on the back but was told it might be a seymour 57 - which doesn't seem to match anything I can find.
sounds real nice, very mellow. reads 7.53 but my meter may not be calibrated very accurately.
I'm most interested just to know what I like - as I'll go out on a limb and say I like it.
anything you can tell me would be great.

In all probability, an STR-1.

thanks for chiming in. is see that's alnico and 7.6 so that makes sense reading wise and the fact that I like it as I've tended to like alnico (alnico pro is a fav).
just for my knowledge, and if anyone knows... why is the winding black on this? I suppose a dif kind of wire would be the ans but is there something about the wire?
thanks again.

The darker windings are because of the different insulation coating on the wire. The dark brown or purple being PE or plain enamel. Used on the very first broadcaster pups then in 65 when CBS bought fender they switched to it until the early 80's. It was also used on Gibson PAF pickups IIRC. The insulation thickness on PE is smaller than say formvar which is the bright copper color you're used to. The thickness affects how the wire lays onto the bobbin, how close the coil wires are to each other and how big or small the coil will be. Anyway hope that helps!

usually the darker the color the thicker the insulation for pe. spn can be almost any color
