Can you split a hot rails?

JeffB

Let it B
and how does it sound split? (bridge)...

For that matter..what about JB jr's and the other single coil size buckers?

Re: Can you split a hot rails?

I know you can split all of them save for the Vintage Rails and the Duckbuckers (old style, anyway).

I've never heard the HR split, but the JB Jr splits well and sounds great when combined with a single in the mid position. It also gives a great tele impression when wired to parallel and combined with a neck single.

Re: Can you split a hot rails?

Why can't you split the VR and the Duvkbuckers?

Re: Can you split a hot rails?

I think the VRs and Duckbuckers use one coil for 3 strings and the other coil for the other strings. If you split it, you'd only get half the strings. (Now series/parallel....)

Re: Can you split a hot rails?

Right, the VR's and Ducks are basically like a P-Bass pickup wired in parallel as opposed to series.

Re: Can you split a hot rails?

hotrail split just sounds like a fat, somewhat unfocused singlecoil to me.. it's 9k or something, its been a while since i owned one...

don't get me wrong, it's usable on stage and cleans up nicely, but im used to texas hots ;)

Re: Can you split a hot rails?

It can be done, my tonal experience is close to Imps... usable, but not the best single coil I´ve ever heard by any means ;)

And my Antiquities seem to be treating him nicely :headbang:

Re: Can you split a hot rails?

hehe oh, yes.. that guitar is the one i took with me to uni.. its a keeper, and it spoils me :laugh2:

jap strat with antiquities though.. it's the ultimate, typical perfect strat to me. if you want iron maiden stuff, its a different story - but for what a strat was designed for, i really couldn't improve on the set i have..

Hehe..thanks for the info/bump up ;)

That was 2 guitars ago though..hee hee :eyecrazy: :jester:

Re: Can you split a hot rails?

LesStrat is: HR/CR/HR. He has push/pull pots to split all three pups. It's certainly not the best s/c sound, but it is usuable and adds some tonal variety options.

Re: Can you split a hot rails?

I have a Hotrails in a Teleclone. I split it using a push pull. It sounds (on its own), as said, like a slightly unfocussed single-coil. It still carries a bit o punch. And seems to let thru a little more spank. When combined (while split) with a neck single, I've found it to be rather nice, and lets the two of them get involved. When in full bucker mode, the rails can shout the neck down a little. The lil 59 split, on its own, (in strat) is a little wimpy, but still useful. ANd then of cours in combo...same story

Re: Can you split a hot rails?

I'm going with the concensus here. The Hot Rails is ok when split. It does clean up nicely, but it just lacks something. The Cool Rails is much better split.
