Can you swap magnets in a single coil sized humbucker, like a lil 59?

Re: Can you swap magnets in a single coil sized humbucker, like a lil 59?

you thought right. :)

The mags on those pickups are attached with what looks like epoxy to me. If so, difficulties will arise when trying to remove the original.

Hay' naps,
They can come loose, but the big problem is there are no AlNiCo replacments to be found anywhere availble in that size and special magnitized direction.
They are Ceramic bars made to order and to work only in that type of pup. and all of those designs are ceramic.
Unlike the common interchangable size of the humbuckers.

Part of the reason for the metal on those designs is to soften the ceramic- so it acts more like the metal composed Alnicos.

You can send it to MJ and she can do it! I used to have a Lil 59 that had been back to MJ and gotten an Alnico II bar

How'd that sound?

Woah, I wanna know how that sounded too...I thought they used the ceramic to crank up the output so it'd have humbucker level output...

Hey thats a good question. I look around for mags some times ago and found descriptions of Ceramic magnets with Alnico 5 strength. Seem to me that you can charge these ceramics with different magnetic strengths to duplicate Alnicos. Is that true or just my guessing?

The CS will make Lilös with different magnets, but AFAIK there are no aftermarket magnets that will fit, save possibly ones salvaged from other Manufacturer´s single sized hums.... But those would likely be ceramics as well ;)
