Can you tell me the tone?

I have this idea for a guitar in my head, a strat, with a padauk body and neck, but a maple fretboard and skunk stripe on the neck, and a maple pickguard. If I was using just standard fender single coil pickups, where on the spectrum from bright to dark is the tone?

Re: Can you tell me the tone?

Wait did you specify a maple pickguard as expecting that to change the tone?

Noone will be able to tell you 100% for certain what the tone would be as wood varies from piece to piece even in the same board. Theoretically the guitar should lean to the bright side but i wouldnt make too many assumptions beyond that... try it and see what you get.

Re: Can you tell me the tone?

So since its here, What pickups would you suggest to even out the tone? If I were wanting it to have a vintage, tad bit bluesy sound?

Re: Can you tell me the tone?

take some pickups that you know the general sound of or have plenty of experience with. Put them in said guitar. Get an idea of what the guitar brings to the table.

Then, select pickups to match up with it now that you know its characteristics.

Re: Can you tell me the tone?

It will, for the most part sound like what stuff you put into it like CTN says. It will be a bright guitar though, brighter than a typical alder or ash strat which is already a rather bright sounding instrument. Tighter or punchier etc. If that is what you're going for then shoot. The neck pickup on that thing should be beautiful sounding.
