Can't Single-coil Split my JB humbucker?

Question:

Had some work done on my Jackson USA soloist (2002), and I asked the tech to take the stock SD JB humbucker that came with the Jackson, and make it possible to split it with a push-pull pot I had. He said sure.

Picked up the guitar, and the tech said that he wasn't able to do tho coil-split because of the wire-connector on the JB. He said that I'd have to buy another JB with the proper wire connector in order to get this feature.

Is this right? I have to buy another JB with the right wiring? What do I order? All I see are one type of JB humbucker for sale.

Thanks!

It may be that the JB you currently have only has 2 wires vs the 4 wires used for splitting.

If so, then I would have by a 4 wire JB? Is that the normal type sold in stores or the 2 wire?

Re: Can't Single-coil Split my JB humbucker?

I can’t even remember the last two wire JB I saw. A Soloist from ‘02 would certainly have come with a four wire JB

Re: Can't Single-coil Split my JB humbucker?

Jackson uses whatever JBs they've got laying around. I'm sure they've got plenty that are non 4-conductor.

Re: Can't Single-coil Split my JB humbucker?

I haven't seen a 2 wire one in awhile. I know the Antiquity JB is 2 wire, and if that is what you have, you might think about just buying another JB (they are easy to find) rather than alter an Antiquity (or actual vintage) pickup.

The Duncan Custom Shop will do it for like 20 bucks if youre afraid of destroyimg the pickup doing it yourself.

I've actually got a 2-wire JB lying around. It came out of my '94 Hamer Special.

Old ones were, and I suppose you can get a Shop Floor 2 conductor one these days, but I don't see why anyone would unless they are replacing an old pickup and wanted the same look.
