Cap Voodoo!

Re: Cap Voodoo!

The paper in oil!

Really? only the PIO?

I would think that since Fender used Ceramics in their early guitars, they would "sound vintage".
And Gibson used Black Beauties and Bumble Bees early on. They were called "di-film" caps. Those types should "sound vintage", no?

If you REALLY want to "sound vintage", you will need to find some very old Black Beauties or Bumble Bees. Or ceramics, especially if it's a Fender (but only old stock ceramics from no earlier than the mid 60's). That Russian PIO cant possibly "sound vintage". Only the original vintage caps used way back when can. ;)

Re: Cap Voodoo!

The best caps I ever used were the gunpowder in paper (GIP) caps that I ran through my six guns as a kid.
I must have blown up thousands of those things, and they had a great vintage tone. YMMV

Remember the powder in plastic "speed loaders"? I liked those better. But they cost more and weren't as vintage sounding.

Re: Cap Voodoo!

Plugging my '62 LP into my '71 Super Reverb sounds vintage. Both have caps.

Explain this one: Plugging my early 50's ES-175 into the same amp also sounds CRAZY vintage... but the guitar's tone knob doesn't work! Effectively, no cap... yet still vintage???

Well ya, I would think the guitar and pups have something to do with it.
