Capacitor for Sentient/Pegasus set??

I am putting a Pegasus and Sentient into a solid mahogany body guitar. I need suggestions on what capacitor to match with them? I am looking for a warmer tone with a little bight.

Re: Capacitor for Sentient/Pegasus set??

.022 mF is standard for humbuckers, but you can always have a .047 on hand if you need more highs and mids cut out. There are no rules here, you just have to experiment to see what you like.

Re: Capacitor for Sentient/Pegasus set??

I have that same set in an all mahogany guitar. I used a .047 with good results.

Re: Capacitor for Sentient/Pegasus set??

500k pots across the board, right guys? (Pot value combines with cap value for roll off)

OP, try .022, .033 & .047, as well as with/without treble bleed. (I like .022 and 500k for humbuckers)

Re: Capacitor for Sentient/Pegasus set??

Yeah, it is worth it to try a bunch, as a value is only a really rough guideline. I generally like higher values, but there have been particular guitars where that wasn't the case. Good thing is, it is one of the cheapest things electronics-wise that you can change and hear immediately.

Thanks Pinto.................I have another question, there seems to be a volume drop when these pickups are in the middle position, any ideas why?

Re: Capacitor for Sentient/Pegasus set??

Like a phase issue? It should be about as loud as each pickup by themselves. How bad is the drop? Like 50%?

Re: Capacitor for Sentient/Pegasus set??

The sound that is missing isn't drastic, they just seem to be lacking when their together. The drop is about 10 to 20 percent at most, and the 2 pickups together seem to lack that certain slipperiness I Hear in other guitars.

So it doesn't sound out-of-phase? I would mess with the pickup height. Some sort of frequencies are getting cancelled here.

Re: Capacitor for Sentient/Pegasus set??

Thanks, I have been trying to adjust the height. The middle position sound has a nice clear honk sound but still seems to be a lower overall output then the 2 individually. Still around 10 to 20 percent lower. More info. for you would be its an Ibanez 5-way switch (Neck/parallel neck/neck and bridge/neck and bridge split/bridge). I've triple checked the wiring and solder joints. Thanks again for your help

Re: Capacitor for Sentient/Pegasus set??

If you had a spare basic 3 way switch around, you could try wiring straight to that, as opposed to the Ibanez switch, just to eliminate the switch as a cause. It almost sounds like you might have 2 parallel pickups in parallel, or 2 parallel pickups in series.

Re: Capacitor for Sentient/Pegasus set??

That makes sense, I'm going to dig more into my wiring. Took awhile find clear info. comparing SD color codes to Ibanez's. Maybe I didn't get them quite right.

Re: Capacitor for Sentient/Pegasus set??

Thanks Mincer, it was the wiring. I finally found the right diagram, threes a charm, you've been a big help.
