OH THE DOUBLE THICK GLAZE!
It's really easy to hear in person, but it's harder to perceive over the demo. Although it's still obvious if your goal isn't to have conclusions supersede observations. Listen to the part at 7:40 where he plays the E minor arpeggio with the tone on 5. The stock Epi cap sounds decidedly like shit, while you can hear smaller differences in the others. And don't tell me that the stock Epi cap had just the right variation in its capacitance value to cause a lovely shit variation.
Good luck & have fun Benjy, but I forbid you let you spend more than 2 or 3 bucks on a single cap... I get my caps on either online or on eBay, from 'peace.love.music, & I load up on some old PIO Bumblebee's, & I buy low values like .0022 or .0027's, & they w/o fail measure between .005 & .007, tops. In a different tone circuit, maybe an .008,,, and when done right with the right match, I get this cocked wah wah effect!! It's fantastic!! I don't know why anyone would want or settle for the .022 & 047's that come stock.... Who plays 'that' dark?!? A uselss sound,,, Start with a
.01, the tweak from there. What I've chosen to do is not so uncommon, & is used my more pros than you can imagine. You can also piggyback then in series or parallel for tweaking,,, BUT with the reverse effect than when you jp resistors,,, remember that!!

Opinions are split about whether or not different types of tone caps have a substantially different sound.
I'm not coming down on either side, though ceramics always worked fine for me even when my ears were younger & better.
My '63 Strat with its cheapo ceramic cap is one of the best performing, best sounding guitars I've ever owned.
Even so, if the whole signal were passing through a cap (as in a bass-cut arrangement), I'd likely choose other than ceramic.
Just in case.

My ears are'nt young by any standards but (just this once) I agree with Clint. There's a difference that I can clearly hear. I've got the silver russian PIO caps in most of my guitar's 'cuz they add a nice warm tone w/ awesome overtones that I like (and they're cheap) :bigthumb::

Certainly listening to that over computer speakers is not the best case scenario, but even with this disability I can hear (with my very old amp and gun destroyed hearing) a subtle difference. The difference would NEVER be noticed by ANYONE in a real world band-playing-a-gig scene, no matter how young and good their ears are! From what I could hear, I definitely liked the orange drop and tropical fish (taking into consideration that it was slightly higher capacitance) caps the best. They sounded more tonally complete/natural. The others seamed to either cut off too much of the higher frequencies or scoop some of the upper mids. I've never minded dropping down a few extra bucks on something that gives me the best results. That's our objective anyway isn't it?!

Yeah, Mouser's an industrial supplier - no good for browsing. You need specifics beforehand.
But often the prices are worth the hassle.
