Carbon Copy vs. Boss DD3

I've been using the Boss DD3 for years... I find it personally satisfying and I get the subtle tones I need from it...

But, that darn MXR Carbon Copy keeps calling my name. Everytime I go online or open a catalog, there it is staring back at me saying "Buy me, you need me!"...

So how does the Carbon Copy compare to the Boss DD3? Is it worth replacing? Are there advantages for the CC over the DD3 or am I just wasting money?

Thanks!

Re: Carbon Copy vs. Boss DD3

carbon copy is analog, dd3 is digital ... that's the difference really ... listen to some YouTube vids to check out what you like better... I like both, but would use them for different reasons. I always have 2 delays on my board, an analog, and a digital... the digital I use mainly for a good dotted eighth sound and the analog for more spacey "chorusy" type sounds for background chords and slower tempo lead lines

I use a DD-20, but that's because I need a lot of tap tempo stuff... if you don't, then I really like the DD-3 for digital delay stuff

I've got a DD6 and a Carbon Copy, and they both have their places. Recently I have really taken to the Carbon Copy more than the DD6, though. I like the slight loss of fidelity, and I really like the way the Carbon Copy with the Mod button engaged handles the top end. It's a much less harsh sound than the sharp pick attack on the delays that I typically hear through the digital delay. I would say you really can't go wrong by adding a Carbon Copy to your rig.

I used to have a DD6, too. I sold it to get a Carbon Copy and I really love the Carbon Copy. I really only use a delay for ambient leads, which is pretty rare, so I don't really get much use out of the Carbon Copy... When I do use it, I love how soft the delay is. It doesn't replicate the pitch exactly so it gives it a fuller sound. I don't know if that helps at all. :-|

Re: Carbon Copy vs. Boss DD3

Good question.. Ive been going to post a similar thread. I have a DD7 (or 5). I hear so many praises for the carbon copy, so I was curious how they compared. My pedal is frustrating me.. I have a very hard time dialing in a great tone. I had it set great once and decided to try something diff and cant find that sweet spot again..

Re: Carbon Copy vs. Boss DD3

i lurv my carbon copy. it's warm 'n' smooth, has a great "attack" to the repeats. not DMM smooth mind you, but it's definitely worth checking out. and owning:)

Thanks for the comments guys. I could no longer resist and ordered a Carbon Copy this morning. Hopefully, it will be here before the weekend for some thorough testing...

They are both very good but totally different animal. The DD-3 is a pretty good digital delay. Good range low noise. I have had one for many years. The Carbon copy is an exceptional warm analog delay which is also quite.. low noise and can really thicken up lean tones. I currently use rack mount stuff as far as digital but the CC is buried in my rack and used for my main lead patch.

Nice choice... Out of the two I find more use for the CC. Great effect pedal.
