Carbon-Fiber Acoustic

I'm contemplating the purchase of a carbon-fiber acoustic guitar (Composite Acoustic). Has anyone had experience with these non-wood acoustic guitars?

Re: Carbon-Fiber Acoustic

I've played various Rainsong-brand all-carbon-fiber models and have been thoroughly - THOROUGHLY - impressed with the volume, projection, and playability of each one.

The big concert dread is like a freaking cannon. Like, louder-than-a-practice-amp loud.

Re: Carbon-Fiber Acoustic

I also like Rainsong guitars. They do not sound like classic acoustic guitars, but they still sound excellent. In my experience, they are very clear and articulate, and as sosomething says, the noughts are really loud (if you want them to be). Great dynamic range.

The fact that they don't require humidification is a nice bonus.

Re: Carbon-Fiber Acoustic

I own a carbon fiber topped Adamas that I love. Composite Acoustics went out of business a year or so ago, but I believe they were bought by Peavey. They are planning a comeback at winter NAMM I hear.

Re: Carbon-Fiber Acoustic

I played a carbon top Adamas Ovation that I really liked . . . very loud and detailed. The rounded back and I didn't get along all that well, it made it hard to keep the guitar where I wanted when standing but I think that that you could learn to live with it. Check out some Kaki King for what they sound like . . .

Re: Carbon-Fiber Acoustic

I might have a line on a used Composite Acoustics "vintage voice" carbon guitar and wanted to get some feedback since I've never played one.

I stand by my old statement that (Kaki King notwithstanding) the only people playing Ovations are middle-aged beginners and youth pastors.

Re: Carbon-Fiber Acoustic

I really dug the carbon topped Ovation I played. nice detail, good volume for a shallow bowl, and it looked awesome. I still want another Ovation, BTw, and I'm most definately NOT a youth pastor! :burnout:

I'll add a few more:
Al DiMeola
Robert Fripp
John McLaughlin
Yngwie Malmsteen

These three are generally thought of as 'better' than 20-something rockers. :)

Re: Carbon-Fiber Acoustic

real guitars are made of wood, not carbon fiber. ..wait..I know what your thinking... ss and so plays carbon fiber...rcarbon fiber has such and such propertieseread my opening stateament.Nothing can touch a finely crafted top qaulity wood guitar for true beuatiful acoustic tone.

Re: Carbon-Fiber Acoustic

C.A. was based 20 miles from me. I'm friends with the guy who was the first marketing director for them. The music director at my church plays a C.A. Another friend was an endorsee for awhile (but he plays a $5k Charis now). He said that he'd fly from one end of the country to the other, take out his C.A., and it was IN TUNE.

The material was invented by a NASA rocket scientist. He and his attorney brother started the company.

I really like them. VERY durable, almost unaffected by environmental changes, good sound, and very playable instruments.

I was not aware of the Peavey buy-out. That's good news.

Re: Carbon-Fiber Acoustic

I have a Rainsong. Sounds great and plays very easy. It really shines going through a PA...I'm amazed ya can just leave it out in the hot sun and nothing will happen. These are graphite with a CF look on the body/neck...the fingerboard is real black, the shark inlays are kool too.

On topic - haven't played a c/f acoustic but would like to. Listened to demos of Rainsongs over the years and liked the sound. I think companies should make travel guitars out of c/f, though they would be more expensive due to the manufacturing process.

You lucky so-and-so . . .
I still want to get one of their super thin electrics, called, the "Blade". (not acoustic)
They started making them just before they closed - to my shocking horror, as i really wanted one bad.
I hope i can locate one (one day), once i have the money.

Re: Carbon-Fiber Acoustic

I got a chance to play the Blade- very nice! They are about 1cm thin, too. Sounded great, and I hoped they would develop the electric line further.

Re: Carbon-Fiber Acoustic

Pretty rare...they came out with them right when the company folded. I don't know if any made it to stores. I played mine unplugged at a guitar show that had a rep from Composite Acoustics there. She told me they were starting a line of electrics. The price was $1600 new, but she was willing to let it go for half that, which I didn't have at the time. It had Duncans in it though. The neck was like a Parker's- very thin, and I really liked it. I don't remember it being super light or heavy though.
