Carcass - Heartwork

WOW! Ive had this album for a while off the other guitarist in my band. For the first time im giving it a proper listen. Im in the middle of revising for my last 2 exams this year (theyre both tomorrow:yell: ) and so this sort of thing is suiting my slightly stressed mood. This stuff seems a good cut above other "extreme" metal bands i hear today.

I believe Michael Amott is one of the guitarists? Whos the other?

Also even though i don't feel the tone is really me, out of curiosity what gear are they using?

Also the wah solo in the first song is nice:) Anyways people, I've got 'Considered Dead' by Gorguts off my friend aswell which ill listen to after. Any albums you guys consider essential listening?

Re: Carcass - Heartwork

Michael Amott left the band after recording Heartwork since he thought everything got to melodic for him. Bill Steer was the second guitarist but i don't know what's up with him today.
AFAIK htey used 5150s and stock ibanez guitars but i'm not really sure.
Heartwork is one of the coolest albums ever imo :headbang:

As for eesential listening:
Storm of the Light's Bane by Dissection is a classic of melodic black metal and about every metlhead ventureing into the extreme should know it imo.

Re: Carcass - Heartwork

cant say im real big on carcass, and arch enemy is alright, but i love spiritual beggars. theyre one of the best bands ive heard in a longass time. regardless of the band, ammott has always been a hell of a player though

Re: Carcass - Heartwork

Ah Bill Steer, i know of him. I got the album of his 'Firebird' side project. Also really cool. Is a pretty good album. I'll admit it, i can't listen to this stuff all the time, but this particular album is cool. Ill check out the recomendations. Cheers for the info guys:)

Re: Carcass - Heartwork

The gear is somewhat of a controversy... we know it was Ibanez S's and DiMarzio Super II's, fed into a combination of a Marshall microstack, but the 2nd amp is where the debate comes in.

A lot of people, including an interview with Bill Steer (although he wasn't quite sure) say that it's a Marshall JCM900 SLX.

A few more people, who are a bit more credible, say it's a 5150. For example:

Andy Sneap said:
funny cause colin swears it was a 5150, marshall micro stack and 2 4x12 gaffer taped together back to back. I'll check with Amott.

The aforementioned frankencab was actually 2 1960 cab's with the back panels taken off (the whole wood portion), put back to back and taped up with gaffers tape.

Re: Carcass - Heartwork

Yeah, not kidding. it was blended with the 5150.

Re: Carcass - Heartwork

Blimey! Im not normally into metal tones like that but its pretty nice n smooth (probably due to the multitracking of guitars though). Always good to listen to new stuff, its not the kind of stuff id listen to all the time, but when stressed about exams its not bad:)

Re: Carcass - Heartwork

I've heard somewhere before that bill steer himself mentioned that they used marshall guv-nor pedals into 800 and 900 series marshalls. Doesn't seem all that credible but it makes a tiny bit of sense if you listen with an open mind.
