Re: Carmen Ghia or Blackface Bandmaster

What do you suggest Lew/tgwif?

I've also noticed that every other blackface amp is very expensive. I don't like that. I'm goin to have 1000 for a head and a cab. And the ones I've seen are a bit over it.

I thought it was amazing! At least the one I played. But I'm comparing to a Nomad 100. About anything sounds good right now.

It's all about finding what fits for you...I like BF/SF Fenders as much as the next guy but the non Reverb models DO lack gain...if you liked that Bandmaster then get it, you might like it long term and you might not. I liek things now that I would have hated 10-15 years ago and I hate things now that I would have loved 10-15 years ago.

I will suggest this, if you really liked that Bandmaster find a BF/SF Fender amp with reverb and see if oyu like it better...Im betting you will.

What I suggest for BF tone on a budget is a SF Fender with a few choice tweaks and mods. Also, does it have to be a piggyback or can it be a combo? If you can roll with a combo get a SF Fender combo (Deluxe Reverb, Twin Reverb, Vibrolux Reverb, whatever) and roll with it after a while save some money and get it blackfaced, new speakers, maybe even a new cab.

If you want a head/cab set up look for a SF Bandmaster Reverb...they are tall and ugly but most of the sound really good and then just get a 2x12 cab for that.

Re: Carmen Ghia or Blackface Bandmaster

That's a good idea. It doesn't really matter to me whether it's a combo or a head/cab. I think a combo might be nicer but I like the idea of having the ability to switch cabs.

Don't worry too much about that...just get an amp that you like and focus on your playing.

How much power do you need and do you use pedals for your crunch???

Well that's all that matters then. If it sounds amazing to YOU then go for it. Don't let me or anyone else influence you differantly. Let your ears be the judge. As for me, non-reverb Bandmasters lack balls...

Re: Carmen Ghia or Blackface Bandmaster

Hey Cream, if you dig the painted one's sound, use the "I'll have to get a replacement box for it & fix the trem" to your advantage....offer $350.00 & see what the guy says.

Also, where are you located?

If you're anywhere near Long Island, Xssive has a sweet Fender cab collecting dust :D

I could definately pay 350 :D That would leave me with enough money to finish the duo-sonic. Beyond that I could get some sweet effects. Not to mention the cab, of course

MN. So, no I don't live anywhere near Long Island. I wouldn't mind shipping if it isn't too big.

Re: Carmen Ghia or Blackface Bandmaster

Keep us posted as to what happens....Check the Mojo Music Supply site for parts & use that in d!ckering for the amp.

You could get a repro head box & then see if you can remove the paint off the (assuming it's) the original & just hang on to it.

The trem issue might just be bad tubes, but a decent techshould be able to take care of any operational issues & then you might be in it for $500 or so....

The guy who has it now tried to take the paint off. It didn't work. So a prepro box might be the answer.

That's a great price for this tone, IMO.

Re: Carmen Ghia or Blackface Bandmaster

I'll keep ya guys updated. It'll probably take till August to get the amp. But that's only if Fender_Punk buys my Nomad. If he's not going to get ajob this summer, I guess I'll just sell it over e-bay or to a shop.

Re: Carmen Ghia or Blackface Bandmaster

Dang man, I didn't mean to cause you so much headache!

I just heard what you were saying and thought that would be the answer for you. Foolproof tone stack, good clean or dirty, took pedals well.

.....however, it's not a Fender.

Re: Carmen Ghia or Blackface Bandmaster

i'd suggest a SF bandmaster reverb with 2x12 cab, unless you truly are in love with that particular painted BF bandmaster. I prefer fenders with reverb, but i don't have much negative to say about nonreverb fenders, they still sound good to me. That said, if nothing else, you should definately try to get the price lowered. I know of a BF bandmaster with cab going for $625 around here, which means the head is quite a bit less than $500.

Re: Carmen Ghia or Blackface Bandmaster

you might want to wait for the dr z galaxie, it sounds like what your looking for :bigok:
