Cartoon pedalboard help. Im confused about the FX loop!

What I want to do is run an isp decimator G string to eliminate the buzz from my guitars and from my amp. This is how I want to do it.

Guitar>ISP>Wah>Bad Monkey>GE-7>TU-2 in front of the amp and ISP>Delay>Phaze>Chours in the loop.

Here is a diagram on how the ISP G string works.

And here is what im thinking. Does this look right or am i missing something?

I usually place it in the effect loop, which would help it deal with both guitar sound and amps sound.

Yeah, i was thinking that the g string was a little overkill. I think I might get the regular decimator and save some money.

Isn't the loop on the G string intended to loop your effects units thru it - to reduce the noise in the effects chain - not to be looped thru the effects loop of the amp? I've never seen it that way...

why loop it thru the amp's effects loop if there are no effects? If you're getting noise from the amp's effects loop but have no effects just turn the loop off... Am I missing something?

He does have effects in the loop. Look at his diagram.

The G String doesn't have a loop. It has two signal paths: one for in front of the amp, and one for the effects loop. It performs noise cancellation on both paths independently, tracking off the guitar signal.

How about this with just the decimator in the loop. will this make it in front of my effects so it wont mess with the effect?

That is how that pedal is designed to work. It's not that complicated. Wonder what happens if the loop is parallel though. Can't see it doing the job completely in that case.

The way it's drawn, it looks like the G String may have 2 separate loops; it's connected to the amp's loop, and between the guitar and the front of the amp. Is this what you're going for?

I usually place it in the effect loop, which would help it deal with both guitar sound and amps sound.

It will cut out most noise in the loop alone, but I think from reading the hype, it is supposed to vary the loop threshold based on the signal strength it detects from your guitar so you don't have to turn it off for cleans. I would try it the way you originally drew it out first. Just be careful about having verb and delays before it... if you are feeding any of these effects into the fron of your amp. It will gate out the decaying regens at a certain point.

Not sure if it is indicated but you will want the loop effects after the decimator in the loop. Not before it. Delays and verbs at least.

Wonder what happens if the loop is parallel though. Can't see it doing the job completely in that case.

My mesa does in fact have a perallel loop. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

I have the original decimator and a Mark IV which is a series loop. I don't think the G string model will cut out all the noise in the loop if it is a parallel loop. I think your milage will vary with the wet/dry ratio.....

You would be surprised at how much having it in fron tof the amp can help though.

In a series loop 100 percent of your signal will go through the decimator or any other pedal in the loop. IN a parallel loop a percent you usually specify with some sort of volume or balance control goes through your loop and your loop pedals and the other percentage of your preamp output signal bypasses the loop.

So if you have it set so 50 persent of your preamp signal is going through the loop the decimator will only clean up that 50 percent for the signal. If you need the decimator to clean up noise genrated by your loop effects (highly doubtful that is the case) than it will work. But it is designed to clean noise generated by by preamp section before it hits your power section.

Some amps are either switchable on the loop or allow you balance so most or all of the signal to go through the loop, thus making it a series loop equivalent.

Also one more side note. I have dealt with the support folks at ISP. They are very knowledgeable about their products, which is good, but also very helpful and friendly. Why not give them a call and discuss your loop issues and see if they think it would be a good application for the G string. Otherwise you could save some $$ and just buy the regular decimator and place it in front of the amp. It don't cleanup some of the hiss from the preamp section but it will definitely reduce overall noise and his.
