Carved tops influence

Hello guys,

How much does the add of a carved top in a mahogany wolfgang type guitar body alters the tone ?

I was thinking of a flame maple top ...

By the way, i´ll be getting these from Warmoth. Does how does the combination of a solid mahogany body and a maple neck/fingerboard sounds ? Balanced ?

Don't have any exp with that guitar, but, probably the same way it effects a les paul or PRS, A brighter top end to balance the warm mids and lows from the mahogany body. So, yes, more balanced.

I don't like overly bright guitars, so I would probably with opt for a mahogany neck or at least a rosewood fingerboard, but thats me....

A thicker maple top will also enhance sustain in most cases. Although we think of it adding brightness, when used over mahogony you usually get a slight smoothing of the upper mids.
