No but, just out of interest, what pickup(s) does Carvin offer as standard on the HF2? (I am a Seymour Duncan Allan Holdsworth signature humbucker user.)

It has pickups that were designed specifically for Allan. They probably are the best of Carvins humbuckers.

They are the H22T and H22N. I have them in my DC127 and they were ordered in my CT4. Great pickups in my opinion....

Funny, Allan doesn't even use this guitar- he uses custom DeLaps and his old Steinberger. Apparently he wanted Carvin to make a headless instrument, and they wouldn't. I wonder if he was allowed to run free with the design what kinds of odd things he would want. I like the look of the Carvin Holdsworth and love the idea of the hollow model but never tried one.

I play a Holdsworth. I thought I was going to change the PUPs, but the Carvin Holdsworth PUP's sound incredible. It is quite an instrument. It isn't really like anything else I've played. Definitely a favorite.

He's interviewed in a Carvin promo vid, and it seems he was given free rein. He does say that the Fatboy was what he wanted in the first place, but Carvin designed the original chambered model as a way to get up to speed for the hollow Fatboy. FWIW.

I have read about that. The deal is that Gibson owns Steinberger which holds the patent on that design. From what I understand to get the licensing would have been a real booger.

I have an order in for a Fatboy (HF2) that should be ready in a couple of days. I love fat necks and stainless steel jumbo frets. Since I do not play at high volumes anymore I wanted a guitar that would resonate at lower volumes. I ordered the covered pickup that carvin released last year as an option. It was more for looks than actually experiencing them.

The last pickups I had that I was really happy with where the SD Live Wires active set powered with 18 volts. From jazz to heavy metal the Live Wires covered it all for me!!! I haven't tried the blackouts yet so I don't know about their capabilities or flexability for different styles. I will be giving the Carvin pups a fair shot at satisfying me but was hoping for some feedback with those that have experiemented with SD pickups on this model.
