Carvin Guitars

Re: Carvin Guitars

I had a SC90 that was magnificent build and a hoot to play. And after some set up changes and a duncan Pearly gates neck and PATB3 in the bridge, it sounded pretty good too. just alittle tight.. ( I was able to counter some of the deadness. But, I also had some older ones that were more alive... So, if they fix the rod issue, they will be amazing!

WOW! 2 too many frets but, that is something to gas over!

Re: Carvin Guitars

If my Post 90`s Carvins have the graphite rods in them then yay for graphite because they are the most alive, resonant, and amazing sounding/playing guitars i`ve ever had. And i could care less about their resale value because when i buy a Carvin it`s to keep. They have been around since 1946 and never sold out.Carvin is the best IMO!

Fret count was perfect.. haha The guitar was more stunning in person.. people went nuts over it.. I really miss that one...

Re: Carvin Guitars

I remember when I was a kid my dad actually bought a Carvin DC135 in Pearl White and it was with Ebony fretboard and it had such an incredible neck. I think he bought it to try it out for the 10 day return policy. I think he was complaining about the then price of $899 or whatever it was.

I have a few nitpicks about Carvin now as they offer a pointy headstock but it's not the 1988? angled pointy and it's also a $150 upcharge.

Other nitpick (maybe they fixed this but the a$$hole Greg or Gary in the repair/customer service back in the late 90's early 00's was such a prick. I wanted to buy replacement pickup bezels for the Carvin pickups that I did buy outright back in the early 90's and he wouldn't sell me any of the older style even though at the time they just started switching over to the stupid 2 bass side height screws and 2 treble height screw.

Other thing I was pissed about was I bought Sperzels as they were offereing the best price and I wanted it for my Gibson SG 3x3 headstock. I get it and you can tell the tuning buttons were straight off of the 6 inline tuners, not the oversized 3x3 buttons Sperzel sells. I think I bought like 3 sets and I sent them back.

Last nitpick is you can't buy a DC125 (single humbucker) or the old DC131? Single hum and single coil in neck anymore, or if you can there is again a huge upcharge.

One final last thing, didn't the bolt kit they sold used to cost like $149 when they first came out and then for $25 more they offered that textured rhino finish, but still it was definately under $200. Arent most of the Bolt Ts now way over $600?

Re: Carvin Guitars

Ok I went to the Carvin site and I am glad to see some changes since the last time i was there. Didn't realize they even has single cut California Carve tops now, pretty sweet. THe semi-hollows look nice. I even see they added the DC125 back to their list. I did a mock up and the price wasn't too bad at $1084 for one. The pointy (+$40) and reverse pointy (+$60) are a lot less than the $150 it was a couple of years ago so that's a welcome change.

Re: Carvin Guitars

Fusion1, thanks for the info! I didnt realize the DC125 was back.. must be a new addition. I had an old one about a year ago and it was a blast. Kahler, m22sd. Mine had the v pointed stock tho. Sold it on Ebay and it was back for sale about a month later for $100 more than I sold it for after the guy low balled me over it. He got it too.. $!@#!@#$!@$#
I considered buying it back tho...

Re: Carvin Guitars

Weird thing is the new Carvin catalog came today and it shows the new Legacy II amps but I don't see the DC125 listed at all.

Re: Carvin Guitars

There's also a ton of options that you can when you call that aren't shown on the website or in the catalog. For instance......Hopefully I'll be ordering a bolt+ neck and body w/ a Koa body and a 5pc. maple mahogany neck w/ an ebony fretboard. IIRC it was only going to be around $500 for both which, IMO, is an awesome deal. Drop some Duncans in and a Hipshot contour trem and I'm golden!
