Say what you will, Carvin makes some goreous guitars! Ive always drooled over many of their finishes and each year they come out with more.

This Vid clip has a couple others that are hot: http://youtu.be/p6MNUb9rG3w Check it out at about the 1:39 point. Gorgeous color and the next guitar is limba. They are also offering flame maple front panel for the V3 amps.

If I had the cash, Id like to get the new Jason Becker model and one of the California carved top models..

Re: Carvin guitars

Before running across my new Prestige, I was considering getting one of the new DC600s in oiled ash.

Re: Carvin guitars

I've played a few over the years......Stellar guitars IMO! Never understood why they weren't one of the "bigger names" in the game.....

I think they are. I think every guitarist has ordered him/herself a $750 made in USA custom Carvin at some point, has it stashed away, and doesn't wanna admit it.

Re: Carvin guitars

Now that Carvin is offering the DC600 headstock as an option on the CT6, the GAS for a CT6M in Orangeburst is in full effect.

They've always been great guitars- but I've become spoiled with the compound radius on Charvels or I'd be all over one

Re: Carvin guitars

Something immoral happened in my undies after seeing that korina with the gold floyd.

I think it's because they're not in stores (generally). People just don't get the kind of exposure to them that they get to the big names.

Also, Carvin is still a privately held company. So instead of needing to grow constantly so that it can be a money-multiplying machine for stockholders, all it has to do is make the owner, employees, and customers happy. Which means they can stay the same size for years and years (if they want to) without being pressured to expand market penetration, distribution model, etc. And going into stores (or being sold through other third-party channels) would change the pricing structure and their competitive position in the marketplace.

I dig me some compound radius, but I wouldn't pass up on Carvin just because they don't offer it. A friend of mine has a DC400 with the 14 inch radius, the playability is as good if not better than any guitar manufacturer on the market IMO.

Re: Carvin guitars

It's just too easy to make one that is ugly as the seven sins. There is a BP-70 or what it's called in black in the local music go round. No way I would be seen with that. And the sunbursts have way too much contrast.

I am very tempted to custom order my first Carvin, a 6-string neck through bass. Low on options, nothing crazy, might come out well.

These guys need a better virtual builder.

Oh I'm not saying Carvins are bad for only offering flat radius- just my fingers seem to fly on my EVH Striped with the compound radius.

I've wanted a Carvin since high school but I never bit the bullet to get one- and now it's harder with soo many options they offer. I love my PRS Korina LTD stop tail and have been shopping around for the Korina Santana model since I want a trem.. Now Carvin offers both white and black Korina, so I can have the guitar made through them instead

Re: Carvin guitars

I ordered a five string bass some years back
liked how you could custom order your "signature" piece
for the price of a American Fender off the rack

many of the options arent listed on the website or catalog

you can see in the pictures the HSH guitars
but they arent listed as options

I had them thin the back of the neck on my Bass
just carve it down a bit because I like a thinner neck

you just have to get the sales dude on the phone
its called "option 42" on the Carvin Forum
tell em what you'd like
there may be an up charge but , you know

This is where the Carvin brand is damaged-------clueless chowderheads dreaming up cheeseball designs that very few people like. Lots of these abominations end up in circulation, cementing the reputation of Carvin in the minds of some as mostly ugly guitars, when they can of course be very beautiful if well spec'd. Hardly any professional guitar manufacturer would mass produce some outrageously flamed glossy purple guitar with bright gold hardware for example. And getting your name on the truss cover? Do these people wear Hulk Hogan Halloween costumes while playing these creations? Can you get any cheesier? :(

Re: Carvin guitars

People really think carvins are ugly? Thats the first i have heard of it.

My dc 127 c is incredibly nice.

Re: Carvin guitars

For 20 years I drooled over their catalogs. I played many of them at NAMM this year...and....meh. Some looked great, but unplugged they sounded really dead...even their arch tops. I liked the Holdsworth, but I have small hands and his signature guitars are built with huge necks for his hands. Also, all Carvins use cheap switches and pots- no excuse at those prices.
