Re: carvin legacy amps.and b52s

I've played the legacy, and seen the B52. The legacy is a pretty decent pro-level high gain amp. Back when they were new on the market I was rejearsing in a store that carried them, and i plugged one in just to see how 'Vai' it could get. And it got very close. So it's a great choice if you're into Vai. I didn't really try it out with other styles in mind.

All I can tell you is the B52 looks cheaply made. Like a beginners dual rec.

Re: carvin legacy amps.and b52s

You'd be dollar wise by buying used.

The biggest downside to Carvin is resale value, their amps don't take as big a hit as their guitars, but if you buy it new & it's not what you want, you'll lose some dough.

Never tried the B-52 :dunno:

Good luck....shopping can be fun :beerchug:

I dunno about B52's tube amps, but their solid state LG series is Randall's discontinued solid state G1 series with different colored face plates and an added level control for the Line Out jack. LG10012S = RG100SC, LG7512 = RG75G, etc.

i like vai ,but not tyring to be vai, looking for a maxed out ,thicker distorted sound, like page and frehley on crack.those are my main influences but love the high gain modern sound of god smack, disturbed ,and vintage heavy rock like zep ,sabbath ,kiss, priest, maiden ect.and am just kinda looking for my first real tube driven half stack killing machine that costs less than my truck.

Re: carvin legacy amps.and b52s

thats the other thing about carvin,ya cant try it befor you buy it,i wonder what their return policy is?

Re: carvin legacy amps.and b52s

I played the B52. It was good for the price, and I bet that through a good cab/speaker set up it would romp. I can't speak for the reliability though.

Re: carvin legacy amps.and b52s

BTW, if I were building my rig from the ground up now and had to play everything from squeaky country clean to nu-metal chunk, and sound damned good doing it, I'd get a used Mesa V-Twin, a used Mesa 20:20, and an Avatar 4x12.

Depending on the prices you find, you'd get a great sounding dual channel half stack for a bit over a grand.

Re: carvin legacy amps.and b52s

as far as used gear, that just scares the crap out of me,there is a reason its for sale, and its up to you the buyer to determine what that reason is,is it becuse some where deep inside its not working properly or did the seller up grade? they arnt going to say hey man let me give you a good deal on this worthless piece of crap that will cost more to repair than its worth
