I'm so torn right now.
Lately, I've discovered some great new metal acts, Opeth, Mastodon, Gojira, etc. And Bulb-stuff, of course. So now I'd like trying to play a little more metal again (last time around, I was on a huge Metallica kick, years and years ago, and I remember riffing around with the guitar was so fun).
But I'm not sure if I should cash out for a new guitar. I have a Parker Nitefly with a Jazz and a C8, it could do the job, but how far away from, say, Gojira tones, would this be? Can I get in the ballpark, or is it difficult (I think Joe uses a 59' and a JB)?
Also, the guitar is strung up with 9's, but I guess I'd string it up with 52 on the low E and 10 on the high E (a combination set) - I don't think I would go further down than DGCFAD-tuning - Gojira seems to get it heavy enough without going much further down there.
Or should I drop the Parker-idea and get a new axe? If so, which one? I really can't cash out more than 2-300 dollars - and I think that won't be enough, but if you know some treasures, that's cool.
Edit: of course I'm thinking a used new axe, preferably a little nicked so that the resale value is lowered without playability lowered. And it would be used for rhythm. I'm not much of a lead player.
