Re: Category #0 SUBMISSIONS: All the best are owned by someone else
I don't "get" this, and it's not necessary that I ever do, but I don't really understand these remarks. Joe may not be everyone's cup-'o-tea, but I he's one of my favorite guitarists and entertainers. :dunno:
(Rory's not going to use it again.)
Every once in a while there are players who basically play the same guitar throughout their career, and the player and the instrument become synonymous with each other ... they virtually exchange DNA, such is the intensity and longevity of the relationship. When such a player passes away, it can seem to some that the guitar they left behind is ... well, not 'sacred', but .... shouldn't be violated at least.
Off the top of my head ... Rory's Strat, SRV's #1, Danny Gatton's Telecaster, Willie Nelson's 'Trigger', ... just as possible examples ... can you imagine someone else playing those instruments ? There are some people who can't, or can but it doesn't make them feel good. Is there some sentimentality involved ? Without a doubt, and that is not at all a bad thing. I dunno, it's difficult to express. But some people don't see it as an issue, some do.
As for Rory's guitar, I'd cringe and shudder seeing
anyone else playing it. But someone in a skinny, shiny suit wearing sunglasses .... ummm ... no. That guitar was/ is probably loved by fans almost as much as they loved/ love Rory himself. There's plenty of other Strats out there to play.
