Right? Does anyone here think they have a guitar better than one Eric Clapton could pull out?

So, if we are truly in search of the best then we have to look outside of our own garage.

My vote is Dweezil Zappa's burnt Hendrix guitar from the '68 Monterey pop festival.

Better? Better for whom?

Let's not get caught in the excitement. Let Aceman sort the categories out, and put up or shut up.

Re: Category #0 SUBMISSIONS: All the best are owned by someone else

Some of my guitars have been with me in life for twenty, thirty and more years. I play them every day, they are never far away ... they are my friends.

Would you swap your friends with the friends of someone else ?

So I disagree with the premise of this thread. Other people may not want my instruments, but the instruments I want are here with me, and I don't want anyone elses'.

My vote is for Jake E. Lee signature superstrat. It's really badass and he plays it godlike; so it's better to leave it in his hands 😉

I winced and cringed when I saw Joe Bonamassa playing Rory Gallagher's Strat.

Have to say this is one of the BEST posts I have ever read on any of the guitar forums!

I like it; drivel isn't as bad as people make it out to be - you have to look for the good in everything...

Re: Category #0 SUBMISSIONS: All the best are owned by someone else

The official posts of this type (before it became the farce it is now) is for Forum owned guitars. So, unless you happen to own a burst, or pre CBS strat or similar then they are no part of this discussion

Re: Category #0 SUBMISSIONS: All the best are owned by someone else

Yeah...this thread is dumb.

Plus the only reason we think Blackie is so great is because it's Clapton's strat. It could play like **** for all we know. Or David Gilmour could come over to my place and go 'your strat is the best ive ever played'.

Why did I even bother responding...

Re: Category #0 SUBMISSIONS: All the best are owned by someone else

I winced and cringed when I saw Joe Bonamassa playing Rory Gallagher's Strat.

I really appreciate what Bonamassa has done for the guitar in terms of keeping people interested in the blues. The man is a walking encyclopedia of blues rock. But I cringed too.

I feel weird about these things. Kirk Hammett owns Peter Green's/Gary Moore's Burst. It must be strange to legally own a guitar, but never be its master. It's someone else's guitar, you're just holding it. For some reason I feel conflicted about it. On the one hand, I'm sure those guitars have a couple of songs left in them. On the other, not just anyone should play them. Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Eric Johnson played Jimi's Woodstock Strat for a gig too. I think SRV and EJ would have been prime recipients of that Strat in their respective heyday.

Re: Category #0 SUBMISSIONS: All the best are owned by someone else

Besides the fact you're giving Aceman high blood pressure..

As for Hammett owning anything but a kid's guitar........I think he sucks, and isn't worthy of being in the band he's lucky enough to be in. Hammet owning Greenie is like CC Deville owning SRV's #1.

I don't "get" this, and it's not necessary that I ever do, but I don't really understand these remarks. Joe may not be everyone's cup-'o-tea, but I he's one of my favorite guitarists and entertainers. :dunno:

(Rory's not going to use it again.)

Every once in a while there are players who basically play the same guitar throughout their career, and the player and the instrument become synonymous with each other ... they virtually exchange DNA, such is the intensity and longevity of the relationship. When such a player passes away, it can seem to some that the guitar they left behind is ... well, not 'sacred', but .... shouldn't be violated at least.

Off the top of my head ... Rory's Strat, SRV's #1, Danny Gatton's Telecaster, Willie Nelson's 'Trigger', ... just as possible examples ... can you imagine someone else playing those instruments ? There are some people who can't, or can but it doesn't make them feel good. Is there some sentimentality involved ? Without a doubt, and that is not at all a bad thing. I dunno, it's difficult to express. But some people don't see it as an issue, some do.

As for Rory's guitar, I'd cringe and shudder seeing anyone else playing it. But someone in a skinny, shiny suit wearing sunglasses .... ummm ... no. That guitar was/ is probably loved by fans almost as much as they loved/ love Rory himself. There's plenty of other Strats out there to play.

Re: Category #0 SUBMISSIONS: All the best are owned by someone else

go back to early electric blues guys like muddy, t-bone and wolf. they wore suits. i dont see a problem with joe wearing a suit. as far as playing rory's strat... should it just sit in a museum or would rory want it to be on stage? duanes gold top gets played every so often, derek trucks has used it, warren haynes has used it, lee roy parnell has used it too. i love duane but i dont see an issue with that guitar seeing stage time

Speak for yourself. Just so you know, not every guitar player cares about SRV, Peter Greene, Rory G, Clapton, Jimi, Page or any other blues player whose name always springs up every time guitar music is the center of discussion.

I am sorry to say that I really don't care about any of these guys (if 'no respect' is too disrespectful). Seriously, I just can't figure out how listening to their music can add value to my playing. Maybe my intelligence isn't leveled with these guys , maybe I am just too dumb to understand the blues and for that reason I am sorry.

But I agree with you that Kirk sucks. But since he's in Metallica, and whether you like it or not, he can do whatever he wants. Metallica sucks but you have to respect their success.

You at least got that right.

I can understand that, but I can't help but imagine that Rory, Stevie, Danny, et al, would prefer to have their instruments continue to make music. Now, if the player was some grunge-band-wannabe, who wanted to plaster it with Metallica stickers, then no. But I bet Joe would treat that thing with the utmost respect.

Btw, is there video of that event? I'd actually like to see Joe play that Strat.
