Reissue Fender Duo-Sonic, 22in scale, string thru Fender Toronado bridge and SSL-5's.

Squier Vista Series Musicmaster 24 3/4in scale with Entwistel HDN pickup.

Hohner HS85 Prototype (one of a kind)

Maple body, maple neck and fingerboard... very heavy, very bright

Currently contains two custom shop Seymour Duncan pickups wound by MJ. Both are hum-cancelling. The bridge was wound to 'sound like Brian May', whilst the neck is a 5% overwound STK-T1n with a gold cover (the production model does not come with a gold cover, custom order). It has a four way switch, wired as: Bridge - Bridge/Neck (Series) - Bridge/Neck (Parallel) - Neck. Which I prefer over the standard Baja tele wiring. It's also got a treble bleed mod on the volume, and instead of a conventional tone control, I have a Stellartone Tonestyler (11 position varitone).

This was my first ever guitar, I got it when I was 14 years old. My parents were/are poor, so they saved for nearly two years to get me this guitar after I fell in love with it at a guitar store (even though I couldn't play at all). For the first 4 or 5 years of gigging, I played with nothing but this and a 50w Marshall... couldn't afford a second guitar or any effects. I used it on all of my recordings too.

It's recently had a refret, after being out of action for a few years. Back to being my number 1.

My parents were/are poor, so they saved for nearly two years to get me this guitar after I fell in love with it at a guitar store (even though I couldn't play at all). This is the kind of guitar story I love to hear.

So many things change in life, so much stuff comes and goes. A guitar that travels through life with ya through all that is something special.

Excuse me? Ummmm….This is NOT a sanctioned category. So you can post here if you want. But nothing is going forward.

I have 4 Wildcard categories that have not been designed yet. I COULD let this one be one of them. But what we ARE NOT going to do is have the masses starting posting all kinds of categories on their own.

If you want a category - send it. I'll put it up along with others for consideration and maybe a vote. If you are gonna put up prone threads - use a different naming convention. Can'y wait to see what category #5 that does not exist is….

Very cool story.

The guitar reminds me some of a Godin Radiator. A resemblance anyway.

As far as I'm concerned, your guitar is the best of all the entries in all the categories. Most of the others are simply guitars one can buy in a shop if one has enough money. A couple of the builds (as opposed to 'assembled with a screwdriver' projects) are obviously special, but yours has character and a truly meaningful backstory.

This is an 'unofficial' category (i.e. not started by Aceman), so if he doesn't 'official-ise' this thread, PLEASE make sure you enter yours into one of his offical threads.

I don't care who spent $10,000 on a Les Paul with the most insane AAAAAAAAAA flame top or who bought their B C Rich from Slash, or who has their name engraved in the fretboard in solid gold. The world is full of guitars, and people with large bank accounts. It really doesn't mean much.

Your guitar is the winner. It's that simple.

Couldn't put that any better. I love my Explorer and I've had it for 16 years now, and I just wish its story was anything close to that cool.

Here's my oddest: Eko Kadett 300. Gold sparkle front, silver sparkle back... Plays pretty nicely; I think the big ugly headstock helps the sustain some. Quite a decent neck on it actually. Weird quasi-Bigsby vibrato. It had the odd humbuckers shown in the photo originally, perhaps intended to look & sound Gretschy. They were a bit anemic & very clean, almost singlecoilish; I remember wondering if perhaps the coils were wired parallel from the factory. Or maybe they were just wildly underwound to save on wire. I gave it a set of GFS Surf90s, now it sounds 60s-ballsy.

It's my "What the hell is THAT?!!" guitar; I pull it out every once in a while and it never fails to draw a comment or two.

Although I can only agree with you and I do it with much respect for your wisdom, I'd also tell you that there are piles of guitars in there with cool stories behind, and their mojo comes from their history, and not the price tag as you say, too. Not because that it's mine, but I'm sure that there are many out there like mine:

Although I can only agree with you and I do it with much respect for your wisdom, I'd also tell you that there are piles of guitars in there with cool stories behind, and their mojo comes from their history, and not the price tag as you say, too.

I agree. In fact it's what I look for around here ... interesting guitars of any style with some clues in the accompanying text that show they have history and meaning to the owner. Like I said before, the world is full of guitars for all budgets, and also people with all kinds of money. A bit like cars perhaps ... we mostly just get a car we can afford to do what we need to do, although I suspect some flashy cars are purchased to help someone create some kind of 'self-image'.

Maybe it would be cool to have a category where only one pic was allowed of ANY guitar in any condition, but had to be accompanied by text of maybe 500 words maximum by the owner to describe why it is 'special' and irreplacable to it's owner .... to my way of thinking, that could really get to the heart of things, in the very same way that good music gets to the heart of things.

Amen to that, brother. That thread would be the king of these "Category#" threads to me. Having pics-only is cool but static, displaying the beauty of the item only. The story behind is dynamic, displaying the attitude behind. At the end of the day, what else matters more than that?

My newly acquired and never played (by me) Hagstrom Impala customized to add a sterling silver pig logo, and to remove all those plastic button switches......... its a rare bird indeed.
