Re: Category #9 Best Telecaster

Meet "Butter", CIJ 52RI, El Dorado hand engraved hardware, pickup cover and hand tooled leather guard.

Does that have a pair of cowboy boots to go with it, Will ? :D

Re: Category #9 Best Telecaster

With respect, I beg to differ ...

Stinky, my modified and beat to snot '74 Tele Custom abberation won this in the first year, and the next time around when Aceman said he couldn't remember the previous winner, I posted a pic of Stinky to remind him. Aceman thought it was an entry, and everyone started voting for it again (even though it was inelegible to enter a second time). Any time Stinky's pic appears here he gets a heap of adulation for some strange reason. So the good folks here are happy to see Tele's just being Tele's the way they were intended, they get their 'whammy and a couple'o'shredbuckers' action in plenty of other areas.

Stinky says hello to everyone, by the way.
It was tongue in cheek bro and based on inside info. It's always been a pretty versatile forum despite a strong emphasis on gainier tones. BTW, no need to beg...you are granted full permission to differ. Hello to Stinky as well. Cheers, RG

Re: Category #9 Best Telecaster

Looks like I need to talk to PTM about converting my 52RI into H/S... ;)

At the very least I'd recommend the 4-way mod. It's a $10 invisible mod and gives you a whole other tonal option that's extremely usable. But otherwise I recommend the SD mini-bucker. It's a superb Tele neck pickup.

My main tele. SD 59 in the neck and PG in the bridge w/ coil splitting on both of them. A very versatile and beautiful guitar. With the PG split and some compression and slapback and the right pick attack I can get close enough to a traditional tele bridge for the drunk idiots at the bar. The neck split has a stratty vibe, and the humbuckers get close to a Les Paul. I can play a four hour show without putting this thing down once and cover a heck of a lot of ground.

Plus, that Dark Cherry finish is just plain sexy!

Side note, I'm thinking about picking up on those Guthrie Trapp lessons as I continue to work on my country chops. I take it they come recommended?

+1

I frequently find a full-sized 'bucker to be a bit too fat in the neck position of a Tele, but an SM-1 kills. It's like the best-of-both-worlds combination of a humbucker and a nice, smooth Strat pickup. Here's mine paired with a STK-T2b Hot Stack:

Standard Telecaster body

Vintage Mighty Mite Andy Summers bridge

50s style wiring with .022 cap & 500K pots

PTM, you might want to pick just one as the official submission or Ace will pick one from those 5. All are beautiful Tele's. :)
