CC for Bright Guitars?

In the new product description it says the CC is suited for bright guitars, but it seems like most people put them in Les Pauls or other mahogany guitars.

What do you guys think about matching the CC in a dark guitar?

Honestly, I think it's a great pup in almost any guitar. The low-mid spike helps to counteract a bright guitar, but I don't think it's too much in a darker guitar.

Sounds great in both. It mellows my maple Kramer and turns my mahogany Epi LP in to a creamy rock machine. :D

In bright guitars it is ideal but, as stated it can be used in any guitar. I find the Custom 5 to work better in dark guitars myself! Its all subjective.

BTW The JB and C5 are both OF SATAN!

I have used a Hybrid of those and had pretty good luck though.

I personally like the JB. It's not for everybody but when set up right, it's beautiful. Alone with a 500K pot it can be harsh, a darker sounding guitar would be best for it that way. But with a 250K pot or even 500K volume, 500K tone with a .047uf tone cap it is pretty sweet. I do like the CC better though overall.

Umm, the C5 was a product of THIS FORUM!!! :lmao:

I like the C5 in a darker guitar! I think it is great for hair metal!!! Still hate the JB though!!! LOL!!!!!

Erik, me and Luke are not working together but we should to kill all of the hype!!! LOL!!!!! I will take your word for the JB "maybe" being just OK with 250K pots in the right guitar! It shure sounds like A$$ with 500K's though!!! LOL!!!!

Yeah, well, I agree with you on that Dave. Wait, did I say that?? LOL!!! It does sound pretty harsh with just a 500K volume, but IMO, if using 500K with it, use a tone pot too and the cap value I mentioned. It helps.

LOL! So which is it between the CC and C-5 for dark and bright guitars? I have an LP that is full an dbright and a darker PRS Mccarty. I am thinking of ordering a CC and C-5 so maybe I'll do a little test. I can't determine if it is the mids making the LKP brighter or the highs. Plus, I can't tell if the McCarty is just so even sounding that it sounds balanced or if it really is dominated my low and mids. But, I hear the lows better on my LP and the yare tighter.....the Mccarty seems more washed over throug the mids and lows....

I just put a CC/APH in one of my Charvel 750xl's and so far, I love it. I want to try a C5 in one of my others for something a little different. Since my 3rd 750xl has a pair of Distortions in it, I think I need something a little more mellow for those "not quite so metal" days.

So, the CC isn't "muddy" at all? Lots of people tend to use that word to describe darker-sounding instruments, but honestly I think a dark-sounding instrument can sound articulate.

Would the CC be ARTICULATE and have lots of DEFINITION, even on the lower registers, on a mahogany body, bolt-on maple neck w/ rosewood fretboard, Floyd trem guitar? How about on an all mahogany, fixed bridge, bolt-on guitar w/ ebony fretboard?

I just HAVE to make sure before ordering!...

Welcome, Millo. I think the CC works better in a bright guitar. I don't find the highs to be as exaggerated as the tone chart claims, and the low-mid spike really helps to balance out the tone. I have experienced what you are describing, though. Under high gain, the CC can get a bit muddy on the low end, typically when playing quick palm muted riffs. If you don’t need a medium-high or high output pickup, the Screamin Demon is a very articulate pickup.

And you guys ought to try the JB in a Les Paul with the stock Gibson 300K pots. It doesn’t take much more than a slight roll back of the ol’ volume control to really find a great voice in the JB.

Don't buy both. Just buy a CC and an A5 magnet and swap magnets. Or you can get a C5 and an A2. They're the same pickup, otherwise. That'll save you a good $70 new. Those magnets are cheap. It might be worth trying if you're really curious.

For me, the CC has TONS of definition. Huge mids and lots of bite. Not enough low-end roundness for my taste, but I seem to be in the minority with that one.
