cc or the c5

Re: cc or the c5

Either is a good choice. Really depends more on what guitar the pickup is going in and what sound your after.

Re: cc or the c5

I've got a C-5 that at different times has had alnico 2 (Custom Custom) and an alnico 3 magnets in it. Always in the same alder frankenstrat w/ rosewood fretboard.

C-5: strong bass, nice chimey highs, scooped mids
CC: weaker bass, highs not as well defined, more mids
C-3: in between (big surprise, eh?) better bass than CC but still less defined high end

It depends on your guitar and your amp. Bright ash Tele with 1-piece maple neck into super clean, bright amp => Custom Custom might be the ticket. Mahogany LP Jr. into flubby SS amp - buy a new amp ;) Just kidding...

Re: cc or the c5

I'd say the C5 for heavier metal with dropped tuning, because the CC doesnt have as tight of bass. I like the CC because of the big output in the lower mids, it sounds dark and thick but still very defined and articulate. I dont think I'd put a CC in a les paul, but it suits my SG perfectly. What guitar is this going in?

Re: cc or the c5

Either one would go well with the Jazz but I prefer the CC myself. One is in a Les Paul and is paired up with the Jazz in that same guitar.
