JTM45 and/or Plexi into all birch 4 x 12 Egnator Cab.
I try for a David Grissom sound and style. I'm just a David Grissom wanna be! lol

To start... I do not own a Celestion G12M or G12H to compare.
I believe that the G12M is most likely the speaker for me but... I can't really afford it and
I would like to get some input from you'all as far as how it really compares to the Private Jack.
When I look at the spec sheets they really don't look that simular and the PJ sounds not so "Woody" to me as it does "Card boardy".... I do own one. Also... they are so efficient
at 101db does not match with much but other Eminences.

I have V30's and I can't stand them... GT1275's are alright.
They do the job, not icepicky to me. I would just like to match them up with something... something Greenback.
Smooth Mids... Chimey sweet highs and lite n tight in the Bass.

Cannabis Rex work very well for my open back EL84 amps, but are too bassy for my closed back 4 x 12.

I can't afford a Blue or a Red Fang... Weber's? I've had to send two back. :banghead:

I really can't afford the G12M's... and the Eminence PJ's are too efficient, and I don't think they sound that great.

What do I do? (Save up and get a couple G12M's)

The Swamp Thing sound samples sound good... but when I read the notes... they say Big Fat Bass. I can't hear it... I need to look at the specs.

Re: Celestion and Eminence spkr help please

How about a Celestion Heritage G12-65? I've been checking those out, and there's a place I found called gabkits that has great prices on them. I'd love to build a 212 cab loaded with dual G12H-65's. I think that would be sick as hell. The G12-65's are higher power rated Greenbacks.

BTW, any of you out there on the SD Forum that know me probably know (or you will if you look at my user profile) that I'm a full time IT Coordinator, so I have no affiliation with gabkits.

g12-65 might be a good speaker for ya. they are a little bright but so are greenbacks. the 65 has a bigger firmer bottom than a greenback too. but i think they are just as if not more expensive than a g12m

Re: Celestion and Eminence spkr help please

The Heritage model Celestions are expensive and the 65's are Heritage models.

Why not just snag some used G12M25's off of Ebay or CL or something, to go with your 75's? The G12M25's have a sensitivity of 97 or 98 db's, while the G12T75's are 97dbs. The 25's have the mids to compliment the more scooped mids of a 75, so I think the 25's are indeed what you want.

Re: Celestion and Eminence spkr help please

Yes, I need something that will match efficiency... and is tight in the Bass.
I think you are right... just wait for used org. Celestion G12M's to come along.
But I'm soooo d@mn impatient! lol
No doubt the G12-65 sounds awesome... I'm just concerned about their amount of bass in a 4 x12.
Now, I could have an easier time just using the Plexi instead of the JTM45.
I have been running both in stereo... it's not really worth it.
I have done it for years though... maybe time for a change.
The Plexi doesn't seem so bass heavy as the JTM45, at least mine.
I might have many more options that way....

Re: Celestion and Eminence spkr help please

The G12M25 isn't particulary tight and punchy in the bass, but in a closed back cab and broke in; their bottom end is okay. I can well imagine an extra ton of bass combining a JTM45 with G12T75s in 4x12. The big bottom of a KT66 equipped JTM45 is one reason I like to use the lighter bass 25s with 45s. You could try trunning the 45 with EL34's too.

or contact Lorantz directly if you wan the 30 or 75 watt version.
I couldn't care less about the history or whatever, but I have intalled lorantz 10s in my musicman and the 12 inch 75 in my princeton. They are amazing speakers with a thick warm tone. Best i have tried inlcuding various celestions and jensens.

Re: Celestion and Eminence spkr help please

Thanks everyone, I just pulled out all my Eminence spkrs that I had loaded in several amps and listened to them individually through a single 1 x12 cabinet driven by my JTM45, clean and cranked.
My findings....
Wow! I don't care much for Eminence spkrs... I mean, I have been using them mixed in with other things and have played a lot of gigs. But now when I hear them individually I am really disappointed.
The Cannabis Rex is not bad I suppose... in a open back cabinet.
They all have this funky cardboard mid-range... yuck! It's not woody!
It's like a Peavey SS amp that has that horrible 800K thing you can't get rid of no matter what you do. The mids are just ugly...
So I listened to the Private Jack, Texas Heat, Cannabis Rex...
I already knew I didn't care for the Ragin' Cajun's in my Vibrolux.
I will gladly take Celestion G12-75T's any day!
I believe there is a more natural transparent chime and pleasant sounding mid-range in Celestion spkrs.
So I believe you'all are right... the only thing I may be satisfied with is real G12M's or something that sounds much much closer to them.
I'm surprised there isn't more reactions like mine on the internet...
There are very few players that say, they don't care for Eminence,
then again I can't stand Vintage 30's either for that matter...
