how are these... i've never used them but i may be able to pick up a cab with 4 of them in there for $100... is it worth it? .. more importantly how do they sound.. thanks :-)

Re: Celestion g12-70

i think they ran about $70 each when new...so thats not a bad deal. i dont know how they sound though

Re: Celestion g12-70

G12m-70's are the notoriously worst sounding speaker Celestion has ever made. Youd be much better off with some Emineneces'.

Re: Celestion g12-70

They're not my faves...but they're still better than most 12's.

$100? For all four plus the cabinet?

Buy it. Sell the speakers on Ebay for $50 or more each and make $100 and get a free cabinet.

The old small magnet cheapo 35W Celestions are some of the worst sounding speakers I've ever heard, I'll take the 70s over those anyday.

Re: Celestion g12-70

Oh, I get ya.

Sorry to hijack but what's your opinion on V30s, Lew?

I love 'em. Especially in a four x 12 sealed Marshall style cabinet because the cab seems to smooth out the highs and add some bass.

I used V30's in my Deluxe Reverb amps for years until Celestion reissued the G12H30. I like that one better because it has smoother treble, more mids and more bass. But the V30 is a great speaker...one of my faves.

I could see how you would want a smoother speaker in a DR, I had a Weber in but put my original crappy Oxford back in because it doesn't have the icepick highs, the tone when I'm driving the amp is much nicer.

Mine is a square 2x12" closed back Marshall:

How do you think a pair would sound in this?

Just fine - at least I'm sure that I'd like it. I've had a pair in a sealed cab similar to that in the past and liked that tone alot. At the moment I have one V30 and one G12H30 in a 2 x 12 open back Matchless speaker cab...I like that too. One G12H30 paired with one Vintage 30 is an awesome tone! Lew

Id take the G12l-35's over The G12M-70's. Granted not by much. The G12l-35's are like eunuch greenbacks, so that makes them just marginally less worse. And waht about the wonderful G12s? Bleeeech!

Where do g10l-35s rate here? Do you have any experience with these?
