celestion gold

Re: celestion gold

Be sure to tell us how it fares, bro. I've been curious and skeptical as to how it sounds in a higher gain situation... I know the Blue is the speaker for some sparklin' chime, but be sure to see if it is possible to extract a decently thick and meaty Schenker or Tres Hombres Gibbons-ish tone.

Re: celestion gold

im hoping for a nice gibbonsish snarl. i like the blue but a little deeper bottom wouldnt hurt and from what i hear thats one of the differences between the blue and the gold. i couldnt justify that kinda money on a 15w speaker, its a little easier on a 50w but still, why do they have to be sooo **** expensive

Re: celestion gold

Celestion has some nice clips of the Gold on their site.

I got a Blue/ G12H30 combo for my custom amp, because I loved that tone with the '65 London, but then I freaked and thought I should've gotten the Gold because my amp is probably more than 30 watts when pushed.

they are expensive for sure - I bought the Blue with my Avatar cab, so that's probably about as good a deal as you can find.

both have great tone

Its the same wattage as a VOX AC30 because of its similar design and vox's have two blues equally only 30 watts. Blues tend to be able to handle higher wattages and break up in a pleasant manner (part of the sound really)

Re: celestion gold

I purchased one shortly after they first came out. I wanted an alnico that I could put in a 1x12 cabinet and handle a 30 watt amp. I have a celestion blue in another cab and have not A/B'd them. I put the gold in a mesa boogie thiele cabinet and it has worked great. The cabinet is ported so may give a little low end boost. Highly recommend it if you are using it as your only speaker.
Here is a little clip I posted 2 months ago.

Re: celestion gold

Aren't the blues $300? They probably made it $400 just for the hell of it

surprisingly 280 seems to be the price

Re: celestion gold

yup $280 is the best i saw anywhere but my guy is really good to me. its here already and ... shhhhh, its a secret ... $240 out the door with a rack of blank cd's

Re: celestion gold

its still breaking in, ill ask my neighbors how al green sounds thru it :)

Re: celestion gold

I got a chance to try one with a 65 London...I liked it, I dodn't really think it had a deeper bottom but it did have a smoother top end...

Overall a really great speaker for some amps.

Sorry, but this post made me grin and laugh!

Al Green... :drive:

What a way to break in speakers and p1ssoff neighbors at the same time.

Re: celestion gold

before the al green it was marvin gaye, now its nina simone

first impression is WOW! big full thick clear bright and balanced and loud!!

Re: celestion gold

great speaker. the highs arent as chimey as the blues but its got a clear stong treble response. great chewy mids that have lots of texture and a focused bottom that is big enough to sound full with out compromising the treble and mids response. its loud too which i like.

sounds surprisingly similar to a blue in everything except the high end which is smoother and not as open. the most powerful amp i have right now is about 30w and when i cranked the thing the speaker loved the power, really came to life. i think it will find its home in my deluxe reverb
