Celestion Super 65 vs. G12t-75 speakers vs. Greenbacks vs. Vintage 30's

I understand that the Super 65's are closer to sounding like greenback speakers than the Vintage 30's.

Any thoughts or experience with these speakers?

it's all good... let's cram as much info as possible in this thread about the difference of all four types.

I searched past threads for the 65's but they weren't there. THis is the first thread about them

I've never used the supers, but I am familiar with the Greenback, VIntage 30, the H30 Annivarsay, and the G12-T75.
The greenbacks and the H30's (25 and 30 watt respectivly)are my personal favorites, the gb breaks up pretty quickly,and is very "musical sounding" the H30 is very similar to the GB, but is a bit cleaner, and can take a bit more power. These both work well in both open and closed cabs. and work well with mid power tube amps.
The vintage 30's,(60 watt) at least to my ears, have a VERY pronouced mid range spike, which I personally don't care for, and don't really sound vintage to me,and seem to sound better in closed back cabs.
The T75 (75 watt) seem to be just the opposite of the vintage 30, a scooped mid, good for hard rock and heavy metal pronounce lows and highs. Also seem to work better in closed back cabs. and can take lots of power

Are Super 65s the same thing as G12-65s? If so, I didn't know Celestion still made them. Are they up on their site?

As far as I know, the 65's are still in prodution... although the ones I am inquiring about are from the 1970's

i think the gt12-75 is what mesa boogie is useing in there rectoverb to give the amp a very nice clean sound. if so-its a very versitale speaker. the vintage 30's are great for rock, blues, as they break up nicely and are bright and punchy. they do sound great in closed back cabinets-they can sound too bright in half back cabinets.
right now I have two 2/12 cabinets (closed back)with vintage 30's. they are wired for bright or vintage. I switch the cabinets to vintage and they are not quite as bright but they sound awsome. the cleans sound jazzy and the distortion clips very nice.
If I was going for a single speaker in a half back cabinet to handle cleans and dirty tones Ide still go gt12-75 as I think it sounds better in a half cab and it is a better all around speaker.
Go down to guitar center and ask to play thru a 4/12 cab(half stack) loaded with vintage 30's thru something like a marshal or mesa boogie head. you will hear why so many guitarists love them in closed back cabinets. if your going for a replacement single or double in a half back combo amp ide still go gt12-75 cuz I think they still sound better in an open back situation. Most huge amp companies do to. Its the celestion speaker they use most in half back cabs.
good luck and let us know what you come up with.

Try Eminence. In my oppinion they are just better speakers

Manowar=G12T75
Wizard=G12H30
Governor=Vintage 30
Tonespotter=The 65
Private Jack=Greenback

The Eminence line is also higher wattage than the Celestions but still have the same breakup.
