Celtic Amps

Re: Celtic Amps

I do specifically want an Ampeg but I don't know who to trust on the volume drop. I like the sound of 7591s much more than 6v6s.

Re: Celtic Amps

There's a Reverberocket 2 in the local shop here and man it's just mind blowing good tone! Wish i could justify buying it. It overdrives so nicely and the tremolo is beautiful as well!

That said, I play with a 2x12 18 watt amp every night I play and I have MORE than enough power to get over a drummer, bass player, second guitar player, keys, and horns. I don't think you have anything to worry about :)

Re: Celtic Amps

My life has just gotten too nuts over the last month or two. And it appears to heading down an even nuttier direction soon. So, I'm going to have to stick to the things I have going now. The big exception to that would be a different style tweed amp. Those are all pretty similar to me and I'm very comfortable with any of them.

I truly appreciate the guys that prompted me to head off in different directions in the first place. If it wasn't for Alex in Florida, I'd have never made a JTM45 style amp. (and it has been my best seller to date).

If I get to the point where I have time to branch out again, I'll do more custom stuff. BUt at this point, what I offer is what I offer. I certainly don't want to offend anyone with this policy. Sometimes it truly does pay to be an early adopter. To those of you that hve gotten amps from me so far, many sincere thanks.

Re: Celtic Amps

No. THANK YOU. I could have never afforded something this cool without you. It still is my dream amp. Especially now that I have the Mass 100.

Re: Celtic Amps

Ditto. Actually, having a more limited offering list forces a player to coax more out of less -- and become more of a player.

But in business, having a more limited offering list forces a player to choose between a smaller amount of amps, and if someone doesn't like the amps available, they don't buy. It doesn't make anyone more of a player.

That's where I'm coming from. I'm not going to buy an amp that I don't like.

True, but variety isn't the only thing every shopper is looking for. There are the issues of cost and craftsmanship. Some manufacturers may offer a wide variety, but it doesn't matter if that amounts to a wide variety of boat anchors (figuratively speaking).

At the same time, I wouldn't recommend buying a pair of work boots if you're in the market for sneakers. Sounds like the tonal palette of Celtic amps isn't for Cream123, and that's all good. I simply meant by my remark that having all the options isn't every buyer's top priority. I got a quality, handmade amp near cost, and I'm finding myself working harder than ever at getting more and more tones out of a simple design -- and it's happening. I feel like more of a player because of it. It's what works for me.

Perluss Whun.

Frankly, I was not sure WHAT I wanted out of an amp. But I've certainly found it in Franklin.

Re: Celtic Amps

Re: Celtic Amps

Well, you were wanting a silver tone terribly bad for the past few weeks? What happened to that, and now why the desire for an ampeg?

If you know what you want just buy it... If you can't decide on what you want you should put off getting a new amp.

And coming up with specs then asking us how it would sound... Is just strange unless you're sitting around with a soldering iron and building stuff.

Not flaming you, but once again you're getting the cart ahead of the horse. I would make a suggestion but you've pretty much shut that door closed. Honestly just shut your eyes, cover your ears and go buy a bassman then thank me later.

Re: Celtic Amps

Don't forget there are other factors in band mixes and cutting through. Like Christian said speaker efficiency is a BIG deal. Besides that certain voices cut through MUCH better.

Voxes cut, Zs cut, some Marshalls cut, tweeds cut. To cut through the mix there must be a certain amount of midrange. That's why guys with their EQs scooped can be lost in the mix easily.

The other thing is your cab. Cab construction greatly affects your projection. Thiele ported cabs give the impression of an amp that is almost twice the rated RMS wattage. Ask anyone who's used a Dr. Z cab

Actually, funny thing is I've got a line on a blackface Bandmaster right now. Which is why I'm probably going to sell my Nomad
